Daddy Stroll already said he would like to explore a Haas-Ferrari type relationship with Mercedes, so there is potential for a sweeter deal there that keeps Ocon in a good car.
But would being in a good car as wing man to baby Stroll be better than a year off?
I think he should get a Williams drive and I suspect it may still happen.
Once the season ends the Media Posturing and Team politics will end and the sensible deals will be made at the Local PUB over lunch.

Everybody knows they pulled a screwjob on Bottas, including the man that orchestrated it

The problem us fans have is everyone accepted that Bottas would have won, we / including Bottas would never know if he would have been able to keep Lewis behind, if it were Seb or any other car, I would bet 80%+ that Lewis would have given it all to get by, which imo a Bottas win was not guaranteed anyways?

Ocon's a very good driver, I reckon it'd be more of a case of Ocon leading a team.

He's out qualified Perez 12-4 this season and when they have both finished races he's finished ahead 8-3. He's just had bad luck with retirements.

I just saw an article where they are talking about a sabbatical now. Hopefully they do work something out and I'd love him at Williams for a season or two.

Apparently it might rain during the race which should add some spice. I'm going to miss the live race as I'll be on the golf course, but definitely looking forward to catching the replay later in the afternoon.

I think its more Toto being a tw@t about Ocon as he already said he wouldn't consider cutting ties, so he'd rather let him rot for a season because none of the other manufacturers will have him.
And just maybe Ocon is a willing party to wait for Bottas' warm seat.

Ocon wants to race next year;

“There are still hopes, yes, but less and less,” said Ocon ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix. “That's a bit why I'm disappointed at the moment, to see that it's not only results that come in play, it has to be other things.

“It's hard to believe that I was in a great position two months ago and things have gone that way now.”

No doubt he'd love a Mercedes seat, but I get the impression that Mercedes will be perfectly happy to retain Bottas so long as Hamilton keeps going and Bottas continues to be a solid #2. Right now he's helping them win the constructor's while not interfering with Hamilton and if not for his bad luck earlier in the season, their margin over Ferrari would be even greater. Ideal driver lineup right now, far stronger than Ferrari's pairing.

Of course he does - just like everyone else. Point being that he could tell Merc to get lost but he doesn't want to lose a merc drive.

They are tied up for the next year so he's going to have to wait. I agree they should hold onto Bottas for one more year. He could come alive at any minute.

DSTV have a repeat of the Race at 18:00 on SS5 but SKY F1 have a repeat of the full coverage including buildup show starting at 9:30am (10:30 Our Time) so I will probably watch that internet permitting.

What a win that 2005 race was for Kimi. Coming from 17th on the grid to pass Fisichella going into the last lap.

Sho, you have to go back 10 years before the last WC didn't win in Japan.

Most Millenials call me Oupa :)
7am I could do but I like the buildup and, as actual coverage starts at 4:30am, that is too early.
Ja boet, but if Ouma wakes you at 7am on Saturday, you going to tell me you'll turn over and say not now, it's too early?
