Its amazing that it took Merc so long to figure out whatever Ferrari’s performance trick was though, they don’t seem to have that performance advantage anymore.

I wonder if it was devious cheating trickery with the second battery or just the better utilisation of the MGU-H?

I suppose we’ll never know for sure.

The FIA haven't helped this because they haven't outright said ''don't do that'' or ''stop doing that''. They just added their second sensor and that was that. With the floors they told teams earlier in the year to change it and gave them a honeymoon period during which they could continue using the ''illegal'' floors while designing more compliant ones. Haas didn't change and they got nicked.

Personally, I think its the infamous ''grey area''. F1 teams have mastered the art of exploiting these with the FIA altering the rules as the grey areas are uncovered.

Interesting observation:
Vettel and Hamilton have won the Japan GP 4 times each and Schumacher won it 7 times.
We have a parallel there to the Drivers Championship Wins too.
It will lead to some interesting stats if tomorrow winner goes on to win the Drivers Championship.

Vettel must be praying for a Hamilton DNF or crash tomorrow, probably the only chance he really has on today’s performance.

Did you notice that @Vettel’s number 1 fan hasn’t been around a while?

Probably still crying about last weekend :p

Here is the most definitive explanation I have see so far, it is from respected F1 boffins and it has pictures :sneaky:
Ferrari's F1 engine dramas explained

Edit: Forgot to mention he basically agrees with The Staggy

Are Ferrari Racing against Mercedes or the Pit Wall.
Race thrown away by another bad strategy call.

Great quali for Toro Rosso.

Ferrari botch job of note.

Williams seem to be quite decent in greasy conditions.

Poor Seb spent more time avoiding the gravel traps in Q3 than racing .

Looks like Kimi caught the rain allergy from Seb as well the number of times he went off in Q3 as well :p

/still notices @Vettel’s number 1 fan is rather conspicuous in his absence...
