Williams had to effectively make "two steps back before we made three steps forward" after returning to "basic principles" with its 2019 Formula 1 car.
The British team slumped to the back of the grid in 2018 and has suffered an even worse '19 so far, as its car has proven well off the pace and left its drivers adrift of even the midfield battle.
However, Williams has stated this season it has confidence that the base of the 2019 car is a fundamental improvement from last year, and it just needs to be aggressively developed.
Rookie driver George Russell said during the previous grand prix weekend in Britain: "It's a step-by-step process for us at the moment. The team had a very difficult year last year.
"They wanted to change a lot of the structure and it was almost that we had to make two steps back before we made three steps forward.
"The groundworks are kind of in place at the moment to try to bring more performance to the car as the season progresses and I've got confidence we can do that."
With their first significant upgrade of the season, Williams made their first noticeable performance gains last time out at Silverstone.
Although the cars remained at the back, the team’s percentage deficit to the rest of the field was reduced considerably. It suggests that Williams may finally have found a productive development direction – and it may be the foundation of further gains in the coming races as the team exploit it more fully.
You know times are tough when barge boards introduce significant speed increase.
F1: Drive to Survive is officially returning to Netflix for series two and will be released in 2020.
The documentary series was considered a hit, especially for its ability to bring new eyes to Formula 1 and making potential new fans aware of the drama that unfolds both on and off track throughout the course of the season.
The first series also gave the spotlight to others as Ferrari and Mercedes both declined to take part. It created new stars of the show, namely Haas team boss Guenther Steiner and his rather colourful use of language.
Series two, though, will see all 10 teams featured after Ferrari and Mercedes decided to opt in.
“We are thrilled to once again be working with Netflix on the second series of Drive to Survive,” said Ian Holmes, director of media rights at Formula 1.
“It is a truly unique series which allows fans to see the unseen side of F1, showcasing the personalities and emotions each team and driver goes through, both on and off the grid.
“Drive to Survive has enabled us to reach a entire new fanbase globally and partnering with Netflix for a second season ensures we are continuing to put fans at the heart of what we do and make the sport more open and accessable to all.”
Yeah, Williams is definitely lacking in the aero department, not the PU.Shows you just how reliant these cars are on aero. A couple of carbon fibre bits tacked on to the side of you car are worth a few tenths.
