As a Mclaren fan, I am very pleased they now have more points at this near halfway point, than the whole of the 2018 season :)

Looking forward to 2020 now
What's more with a gap of 28 points from Toro Rosso they are a Midfield of one the rest of the teams are within 8 points of each other. o_O:laugh:

Renault truck crashes en-route to Hungary

Renault.crash_.s-700x367.jpg

The driver of a Renault transporter truck has escaped without serious injury after crashing on a motorway as he headed for the Hungaroring.

After leaving Hockenheim on Sunday night, the truck was travelling to the scene of the next grand prix in Hungary, but it would crash through motorway safety barriers leaving the tractor unit and half the trailer stranded on a grassy verge.

Renault have confirmed that the driver of the truck was not seriously injured and that no other vehicle was involved in the accident.

“We confirm that a Renault F1 Team truck was involved in an accident on the M1 in Hungary, near Gyor,” the team said in a statement.

“The driver, who was driving within the respected regulations, was extracted from the vehicle. He is conscious and has not suffered serious injury.

“He has been transported to hospital in Hungary for further checks. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.”

The truck has been recovered and what it was carrying has not been revealed.

I missed the whole German GP race weekend  Will try and catch-up in the week

Okes, thanks for the in-race updates and post-race comments  Makes for a good read on a Monday morning
Excluding the Hockenheim race, this thread has been more exciting than the actual F1

Baby Schumi gave it some stick in tricky conditions.

I wonder which mechanics those were at the end. This car is the better part of 15 years old now. I wonder how many of the current Ferrari crew were working on this car back then.

Ferrari, through their F1 Clienti, maintain classic F1 cars sold to select collectors and they can provide period mechanics. For example, if you bought a V12-engined car from the early 90s Ferrari will be able to provide you support at track days from people that would've worked on the car in its prime. So I'd imagine any classic F1 cars in Ferrari's possession will be be run and maintained by people that worked on them when they were active racers.

Classic Team Lotus employs a lot of the guys that worked on Lotus cars from the 60s and 70s. For example, Bob Dance. They maintain privately-owned Lotus F1 cars and work out of Lotus' original factory.

On the other hand, Williams Heritage is a mix. It is headed up by experienced team members, notably Dickie Stanford, Nigel Mansell's former race mechanic and later chief mechanic of their test team during the 90s when they were dominant. While they have people that are familiar with the old cars running the show, they have to make use of personnel from the active race team. Reading up on Williams' Heritage programme, the biggest challenge is software redundancy. Cars from the 80s and early 90s run on MS-DOS and according to Stanford, on a few occasions their MS-DOS capable laptop has packed up and they have been unable to bring one of the period cars online.

I remember watching this video of a bunch of old German mechanics assembling a BMW M12 engine ahead of a heritage show. These were the same guys that prepped Nelson Piquet's championship-winning engines nearly 30-years ago and they include the man responsible for its design.

So yeah, I'd imagine the F1 teams are more than capable of maintaining and running their old cars but if needs be, the men that worked on them in their prime can be involved as well if they require the expertise.

Someone tell Williams about DOSbox
DOSBox like any other VM on a modern OS is Sandboxed and has no direct HardWare access.
The old MSDOS laptops had Serial and Parallel ports that were directly accessible from DOS applications and those Apps won't work in DOSBox unfortunately.

Hoping that Hungary can continue to deliver more excitement but I fear that if the weather is good, it's going to be a bit of letdown after the highs of Austria, Silverstone and Hockenheim.

Former F1 boss provides rare update on Michael Schumacher

However, in an interview with Radio Monte Carlo, Todt, a close friend of Schumacher, revealed he regularly visits his friend and the two still watch Formula One together.

"I'm always careful with such statements, but it's true,” Todt told the station. “I saw the race (last weekend’s German Grand Prix) together with Michael Schumacher at his home in Switzerland."

Todt, who worked closely with the F1 great during their time together at Ferrari, also explained how their relationship has changed due to the accident but insisted Schumacher was still working hard on his recovery.

“Of course our friendship can not be the same as it once was,” he added. “Just because we can no longer communicate the same as before.
