Talk of Giovinazzi getting the chop at Alfa so early in the season sounds more like an attempt to get Schumacher into F1 ASAP.

Liberty Media have reiterated their desire to host a Formula One grand prix on the African continent and revealed that they are looking at Kyalami in South Africa and Marrakesh in Morocco as potential locales.

South Africa and Morocco have hosted Formula One races in the past. The Morocco Grand Prix filled a slot on the Formula One calendar in 1957 and 1958. The ’58 race was one by F1 legend Stirling Moss. Kyalami hosted 20 Grand Prix 1967 and 1993.

Liberty Media commercial managing director Sean Bratches made the revelations at a Sport Industry Breakfast Club event in the Netherlands.

“It’s a marketplace [Africa] in which we would like to race ,” Bratches said.

“We race on five continents now and the last habitable continent that we don’t race in is Africa.

“We’ve been having very productive conversations in South Africa and to a lesser extent in Morocco about bringing a grand prix… we’re on it. It’s really important to us.”

Bratches said that having the backing of government in Morocco and South Africa would be very important.

“The vast majority of our grands prix are underpinned by government and it’s because it works. We shine a bright light on these cities,” he added.

Watched the WTCR race at Zandvoort and it was pretty pedestrian. Kayalami would be so much better.

It is a terrible idea going there.

It was a fearsome track once-up-a-time. Now it is a go-kart track.

RIP Niki Lauda: three-time F1 world champion passes away

Three-time Formula 1 world champion Niki Lauda has passed away at the age of 70 years, with the Austrian’s family confirming his death.

"With deep sadness, we announce that our beloved Niki has peacefully passed away with his family on Monday," Lauda’s family said in a statement, as reported by Austrian media.

"His unique achievements as an athlete and entrepreneur are and will remain unforgettable; his tireless zest for action, his straightforwardness and his courage remain.

"A role model and a benchmark for all of us, he was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather away from the public, and he will be missed," the statement said.

As pointed out by motorsport.com, Lauda underwent a lung transplant in August 2018, before heading back to hospital in early 2019.

WTF? I watched that guy race and he only made positions because everyone in front of him crashed out. He is currently 12th in the championship.

Yeah this is what I was saying earlier in this thread when it was first announced he'd made it into F2. Rushing him into F1 now just because of his name would be potentially the worst thing for him. He's already under so much scrutiny and pressure, the added weight of expectation because of his name could be seriously detrimental. Give him another year at least in F2 and then go from there.
