Vettel's having a rough year. I still give the guy the benefit of the doubt, Ferrari have given him a different car to LeClerc and his team always seem to run strategies that result in him coming off second best. Its not like the guy forgot how to drive, he can only do so much with what he's given by his team.

I hope he can redeem himself in ASton Martin next year.

So that should really answer the questions of who is the best, who is the most successful, most consistent.

Hamilton has two years on Schumacher and racing a lot more, he'll more than break all the records should he continue.

He's also better at qualifying although qualifying changed I think. Regardless, he is consistent AF across the board.

Schumacher on the other hand has a higher win to race ratio so to his pole to win ratio. 91 wins started on pole only 68 times vs Hamilton's 96 poles for 91 wins. One can argue it's easier to win when you start in front but there are so many differences in in rules/regulations (refueling, same tyres, shittier tyres, mandatory pit stops etc).

To me it's obvious Schumacher is the more "ultimate" racing driver between the two.

But Alonso is still the best so whatever.
Hamilton is definately talented, I just wish he had a stronger driving partner to make things more interesting, like Max

Merc won't take someone who is going to challenge Lewis because they want to avoid the 2015 and 2016 situations. As a fan I also want to see someone challenge Lewis because it will spice things up.

If Leclerc is given a good car next year he could challenge both Max and HAM.
The problem is not Mercedes for being good it is the other teams for NOT being as good.
F1 is not mach racing it is as much an engineering race as it is a drivers race.

Nah, its the same car.

Vettel isn't the same driver he was. Skills decline, this is something that every sportsperson has to deal with. For some the decline is overnight, for others it is gradual. Even Kimi, as long as his career has been, isn't the same driver he was. I'd say best Kimi was over 10-years ago, the Kimi that fought Michael and Fernando for championships. Likewise best Vettel was the Red Bull years.

I feel Vettel was driving beyond his ability to beat Lewis. As Lewis came in to his prime, Vettel was exiting his and he overcompensated. Hence the many errors. Then you throw in a new teammate applying internal pressure (Nico Rosberg destabilised Lewis) and finally, the team pretty much turned on him. Vettel has said there was never any interest from Ferrari to sign a new contract. Result? Vettel is unmotivated and driving beyond his ability now.

A midfield team might be exactly what he needs to find some love and motivation for the sport again but his days of being a championship-winner are over.
