The car isn't good. Even Leclerc knows he picked up a podium on pure luck.

IMO mercedes "sensor issues" was just manufactured drama, i think they just didnt want bottas and ham to collide or didnt want to show other teams how many lightyears ahead they are or something but that sensor issue excuse had timing that was too perfect for what mercedes needed to achieve

Both Williams (Russell) and Racing Point (Stroll) experienced failures that were not clear to them. Both are powered by Mercedes. Williams have already said the PU on Russell's car will be sent back to Mercedes so they can investigate. Post-race, Stroll said they still don't know what went wrong with his engine.

The Mercedes sensor issue wasnt part of the PU though was it? Thought i read it was a different issue.

You've still got all 3 Mercedes-powered teams struggling with reliability.

Mercedes also supply Racing Point's entire drivetrain, which includes the gearbox. There is no doubt Mercedes engineers would've been looking at Williams and Racing Point when they picked up on their own issues.

You make your own luck. Hamilton won multiple championships through luck.

Lol Hamilton is actually more composed as of late, the old Hamilton use to drive the crap out of his tyres but to his own detriment, he has come along way and a much more matured and a complete driver. Yes agree there is a certain degree of luck involved but come on lets be real not all his title's has been won in this fashion. ;)

" As I have been informed, on Wednesday #Renault is planning to make an official announcement. After the race, Cyril Abiteboul has told veteran mechanics (those who have been around for more than 15 years) that they have already worked with him."

Alonso to Renault rumours are back again: https://www.planetf1.com/news/renault-fernando-alonso-2021-announcement/

"The Renault rumour mill has fired up again with reports suggesting an announcement on their 2021 driver line-up could be made as early as Wednesday.

A vacant seat alongside Esteban Ocon became available after Daniel Ricciardo opted to replace the Ferrari-bound Carlos Sainz ahead of the 2021 season.

The likes of Valtteri Bottas, Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso have all been linked with the seat and, according to Spanish broadcaster and journalist, Noemi de Miguel, an official announcement is close.

‘As I have been informed, Renault is planning to make an official announcement on Wednesday,’ she said on Twitter.

There is also a strong suggestion that the mystery driver announced will be Alonso, although judging by the following line you could also perhaps bring Nico Hulkenberg back into the equation.

She continued: ‘After the race, Cyril Abiteboul has told veteran mechanics (those who have been around for more than 15 years) that they have already worked with him.’ ..."

Not Alonso please. Let's have fresh talent. The Alonso we know and love will never be seen in an F1 car again, he's older, not as good and getting into a kak car. He will never be a championship contender in a Renault, which means he will never be that ecstatic self when he takes podiums. He will be the whiny, upset McLaren-Alonso and nobody wants to see that.

Yeah I agree with that. Plenty talented youngsters around (and that would be much cheaper for Renault)

Valid concerns. On the other hand, it could be argued that he knows what he is coming back to in terms of a race and championship winning car and accepts he won't be at the front end. With this in mind, he could be racing just for the love of it (ala Kimi) and is happy to drive the team forward from a developmental perspective; hopefully with the fruits of his labour appearing in a few years time.

Yea also valid. I would just rather let new talent get a shot. As it stands, Hamilton, Raikonnen, Vettel, Grosjean, Hulkenberg (rumoured to return) are all 30+. Hamilton can stay because he is still good, the rest could be put out to pasture with no issue. Grosjean especially. Tsek.

I think f1 is at its max limit for whining drivers. Remember Renault promised Riccardo green pastures which didn't materialize. So please no. Not taking anything away from Alonso's capabilities.
