...RBR had a champion driver. They should just get him back and put Vettel in their car for next year.

Hamilton slowing the rest of the pack down so much he was more than 10 car lengths from Verstappen going to the line for the first restart. Max has colder Hards, and loses 1st place at the first corner.
Amazing...the stewards let all of that go along with Perez being taken out.
But it wasnt a safety car start...

The rulebook says "on the formation lap you may not be 10 cars". Red flag restart doesn't have the "formation lap" as defined by the rules, and thus no rules were broken.

Unsportsman, but legal.

Funny that Lewis said interview that Max brake tested him to gain advantage before the detection zone. So Max slowed down before it and Lewis also slowed down way before they touched. So if cheaters Mercedes didn't know anything about the message from M Masi that Max would let Lewis by, then how come Lewis knew about what Max was trying to do.

Maybe someone told him after the fact....?

Again we are all just conjecturing here

Because they are racing drivers who know the track, where they are on it, where the detection zones are and what tactics are likely to be used. Like chess grand masters they are thinking way ahead of the rest of us.

Everyone knew VER had to give the position back. When the RB slows down in front of you, either a) it's broken or b) it's giving position back

HAM knew what he was doing, but didn't expect VER to brake for him.

The message is irrelevant.

It was green flag conditions on a flatout section of the track. Lewis has nobody to blame for sitting behind a very clearly slowing car.

Quiet race for them but a good result for Gasly and Ricciardo.

Max given a 10 second penalty for causing a collision.

At turn 21 the driver of car 33 was given the instruction to give back a position to car 44 and was told by the team to do so “strategically”.

Car 33 slowed significantly at turn 26. However, it was obvious that neither driver wanted to take the lead prior to DRS detection line 3.

The driver of Car 33 stated that he was wondering why Car 44 had not overtaken and the driver of Car 44 stated that, not having been aware at that stage that Car 33 was giving the position back, was unaware of the reason Car 33 was slowing.

In deciding to penalise the driver of Car 33, the key point for the Stewards was that the driver of Car 33 then braked suddenly (69 bar) and significantly, resulting in 2.4g deceleration.

Whilst accepting that the driver of Car 44 could have overtaken Car 33 when that car first slowed, we understand why he (and the driver of Car 33) did not wish to be the first to cross the DRS.

However, the sudden braking by the driver of Car 33 was determined by the Stewards to be erratic and hence the predominant cause of the collision and hence the standard penalty of 10 seconds for this type of incident, is imposed.

Dear god, Lewis is still whining.

'some drivers think the law doesn't apply to them'.

'for him it doesn't matter if we both don't finish' .
uh....

Things we learnt:

1. You can take as long as you like to return to the grid after a red flag
2. When you go off the track to gain an advantage, the order to return to is relative the the driver you gained an advantage to rather than the position you must return to.
3. You are allowed to choose to not take back the position when it's offered to you but still be owed that position.
4. Brake testing another driver is a 10s and not a DQS.
