The 5 second penalty was given very shortly after the braking incident.

I'd have to check, but lap 37 was the brake test and I think the 5s was shown on the tv on lap 40ish...

If I recall, lap 36 was VER going off the track for the unfair advantage - so the instruction came within a lap

Judging by the sudden improvement in speed the past couple of weeks. RBR really have their work cut out for them. So does Perez and he needs to be qualifying MUCH higher than he currently is.
Turn up the engines of the Alpha Tauris and let them get in on the mix too.
This is the one let down imo for Max, and that is Perez. Checo is much better than what he has shown, but if there is one thing Max will be desperately hoping for, is that Checo can at worse be on the 2nd row for the final race..

So since this is a drama and penalty filled season I'm gonna put this out here first:

Next weekend Max finished 1.8 seconds in front of Hamilton to claim the WDC but gets a 5 sec time penalty :p

probably applied as a result of an appeal and only occurs 2 weeks after the end of the season.

NONE of the Hamilton fans remember that. And Vettel, if I remember correctly, got nailed for driving into him on purpose!
Telemetry said there was no brake test

Even Vettel said so afterwards

But you know, no need for your bias to cloud your judgement

The telemetry.

Max was very clearly - and consistently - decelerating before Lewis ran in to him. Speed dropped from ~300 km/h to ~120 km/h at the point of contact. Max's braking pressure only became ''abnormal'' in the milliseconds before contact (you can see this in the change of the speed slope prior to contact).

Also take note of the gear graph comparing laps 35, 36, 37. Max was gearing down in a part of the track where you don't shift down.

That Lewis found himself in a situation where they were at a near stand-still - by an F1 car's standards - is his own fault.
