Alonso went into a melt down and threw his toys after being matched by a rookie, now imagine what he is going to do if he actually gets beaten by Stoffel Vandoorne. No wonder Ron is keeping JB on standby.
F1's 2017 technical regulations could shape Alonso's call on future
"My contract finishes [at the end of] next year, and with many changes coming in the regulations in terms of tyres, performance, it could make Formula 1 again attractive to drive.
"Now it's a little bit frustrating how we drive these cars, how we save everything, which is against your instincts.
"So we will see next year, and I will decide after the summer [of 2017]."
Fernando Alonso 'not at all happy' with current Formula 1
"Many things will change next year, let's hope the joy of driving will return to be a major factor," added Alonso.
"If I see F1 carries on going in a different direction compared to what I knew and loved in the recent past, at that point I could consider other alternatives and leave F1.
Button is on standby as Alonso is already on record as saying he doesn't enjoy F1 in its present state, not because they are worried about him losing. He only just went and set the fastest lap at a track not suited to his car, so the speed and ability is still there.
Or if Alonso starts throwing his toys again after another rookie beats him.
Selective? No. He got beaten by that Finnish driver. Like it or not. That isn't selective. That is just the truth.
The fastest lap had nothing to do with "speed and ability", but it is simply because he pitted 3 laps before the end of the race.
I'd agree, Alonso put new super softs on and went out with low fuel and effectively did a qualifying lap. It was still pretty slow by single lap standards. Alonso's fastest lap was 1:25.340, Hamilton's Q3 lap was 1:21.135.
That Honda's "speed and ability" was still almost 4 seconds slower than the comparable lap by the Mercedes.

Spa 2016;
Pole - 1:46,744 (Rosberg)
Fastest Lap - 1:51,583 (Hamilton, lap 40 of 44)
I don't remember Hamilton doing a pit stop for new supersoft tyres on lap 40 at Spa...
Is there a link to video of that pit stop?![]()

Fernando Alonso believes McLaren may challenge Ferrari this year
ernando Alonso believes McLaren can fight for top five finishes and possibly challenge Ferrari at certain races before the end of the 2016 Formula 1 season.
Both McLarens finished outside the points in the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, a result Alonso said was expected because of the high-speed nature of the circuit.
But with Honda's weakest race out of the way, Alonso believes "good times are coming".
"We didn't have the pace today to be in the points," said Alonso, who finished 14th with team-mate Jenson Button 12th.
"But we knew - we expected this coming here, so it was just a confirmation.
"From Singapore [next race] we should be in the points regularly with the performance of the car we have now.
"Some races, like Austin, Abu Dhabi, we can be in the top five fighting with Ferrari I hope.
So the fact that it was set when his car was as light as it was going to be doesn't factor in?
On another note, Kvyat seems to be on a bad downward spiral.
Not sure whats up with him.
Race after race some shyte happens. I can understand his bitterness towards F1 in light of what happened this year but to risk your F1 career like that ?
Or maybe its true colour coming out.
Selective? No. He got beaten by that Finnish driver. Like it or not. That isn't selective. That is just the truth.
You can't compare what someone does at the end of a race on worn tyres with what someone does on a brand new set of the fastest available tyre...
jislaaik it, Ferrari get the strategy wrong again. Surely one of Kimi or Vettel should have been on a 1 stopper, instead both were on 2. Blerrie frusrating with Arrivabene in charge there, who doesnt seem to know what he is doing
Canadian teenager Lance Stroll has emerged as a frontrunner to replace Felipe Massa at the Williams Formula One team next season after the Brazilian announced his retirement last week.
Jacques Villeneuve, the 1997 world champion who was the last Canadian to race for the British-based team, told Reuters at Monza that he believed the deal was all but done for the 17-year-old.
A team source confirmed separately that Stroll was on the short list, along with Brazilian Felipe Nasr, who was a Williams reserve before securing his current race seat at Sauber.
Stroll turns 18 in October and is on course to win the European F3 title, which would secure him the necessary super-licence.
His career has been bankrolled by billionaire father Lawrence, who made his fortune with the Tommy Hilfiger and Michael Kors fashion brands.
Williams signed the youngster last year as a development driver with a promise he would be 'fully immersed' in the team in the same way that current race driver Valtteri Bottas was.
Mexican Sergio 'Checo' Perez has also been in the rumour mill but Force India, who are battling Williams for fourth place, have him under contract.

Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene says suggestions Ferrari chose the wrong strategy for Formula 1's Italian Grand Prix made him laugh.
Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen finished a distant third and fourth to Mercedes drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton at Monza, opting for a two-stop race while the reigning champion team stopped its cars just once.
"I was hearing straight after the race some comments that maybe one stop was the better strategy," Arrivabene told reporters in the Monza paddock.
"I was laughing about this with our engineers.
"You have to protect yourself if you go for one stop. We were doing the opposite, we were aggressive.
"If we did the same strategy as them, we were [going to be] 11 seconds slower than we were.
"So we were on the faster strategy."
And an immediate return of Ross Brawn to F1
