Facebook Inc. is now Meta

Facebook Inc. is re-christening itself Meta, decoupling its corporate identity from the eponymous social network mired in toxic content, and highlighting a shift to an emerging computing platform focused on virtual reality.

“The metaverse is the next frontier,” Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said in a presentation at Facebook’s Connect conference, held virtually on Thursday. “From now on, we’re going to be metaverse-first, not Facebook-first.”

Unlike alphabet, /cough also greek, meta is such a common word in online speak. Though I can understand why Facebook Inc. has opted on changing to Meta it isn't a word people will commonly relate to as Facebook Inc. I guess 'neutrality' may be to their advantage.

The one thing that they could have done better is the logo, it is super generic. Lemniscate... it could very well have been a stock logo. Just odd that they went with things which are commonly used... Trademark hell, but then again, circles are being trademark, so...

Is it just me or is Zuckerberg's entire future plan and the Metaverse he's building basically Ready Player One - the movie?
Watching his presentation tonight it reminded me more of the Jump 225 trilogy's Multi Network.

metaspy, meta ads, meta privacy and it goes on and on,
so many names one can stick on the end of meta, I dont think they thought it through.
