Just wondering what you think is a "fair usage". Without telkom complaining or capping... this is where the relaxed capping should start, for the current R249 3GB accounts.
I believe in the regions of 10GB is what we can expect for TelkomInternet on a 512kbps line.

Other opinions from MSN Contacts I asked.

10GB
20GB
3GB
3GB
8GB

What you think?

@MrG - you cant really call it a R249 3GB account and wonder how much you should be entitled to.

If what you want is a fixed account for a fixed amount - webafrica has those.

When you get a TelkomInternet account you're buying 3gb and then some arbitrary amount above that - Russian roulette with data. ;)

I think we're going to be looking at some higher cap accounts coming from TelkomInternet soon.

I was trying to word my question in a way you dont get that kinda outlook. 3GB is the current cost of R249... question was, what you think can be expected from them for the R249, not looking at the current limit in place.

30gig :)

Let's face it, not everyone is going to use 30gig, esp. if telkom is of the opinion that "abusers" are the minority. In fact why do we have a 3gig cap if the "abusers" are the minority?

Considering we paid R199 for 30GB a year ago, you should definitely get 30GB out of the R249 account.

But back down to earth in South Africa, I would say that 10GB is fair usage. But when has Telkom ever been fair?

I think whatever the average usage is would be a fair answer. But the only way you'd be able to get a true average would be to allow an uncapped service, at least for a while.

If TelkomInternet raised their cap to 10gb for r249 there would be a b!tchfest of note coming from the other ISPs.

I think they should just cap it at 3GB like it's advertised as and stop wasting time with their "abuse" emails.

Or even better, just drop the cap.

Exactly. By their own admission they instituted the random capping policy to accommodate high-end users (to give them and unfair competitve advantage), now they want to nail them. Gee I wonder why? Could it be that they want high-end users to buy larger capped accounts?
Every other ISP caps your ass as soon as you hit the agreed upon and paid for cap and offers accounts with higher caps, and they still manage to take business away from Telkom despite the afore mentioned advantage.
Telkoms obviously realized that their random capping policy isn't giving them as big an advantage as they hoped.

Based on..?

Who cares? Did providing broadband internet become a democratic process all of a sudden?

What everyone is missing is that we should all be able to use however much we see fit and pay accordingly at a reasonable rate. R249 is probably a fair price for uncapped useage. 30 gigs or less should cost way less.

Lets all stop quibbling over who uses what and get back to attacking Telkom who are keeping us in the dark ages, while raping our wallets.
