With the young ones having the cell phones now and exploring the world a bit. Buying data has become a pain in the bum and expensive.
What options are there for me other than individual data plans?

MTN Data Sim that allows data share.
You can set limits per number

Its what we use. I have a black friday MTN deal with some base-contract included data, the oldest gets to use that data.
My wife has a Black Friday MTN deal with some base-contract included data, the younger brother gets to use that data.

Only pain is it is never 100% certain how much data they have available. They have run out a couple of times.

I find buying them Whatsapp bundles so that they can at least message me worthwhile.

I have Telkom Infinite contract that comes with 15 gigs a month.

The rest of the family have prepaid SIM cards, I then transfer 250meg to each kid at the start of the week and again on a Friday, so 500 meg per week. It is their responsibility to manage their data and inform me timeously that they need more data.

So far, it works like a charm. Being doing it for 6 years, before Flexon/Infinite I did it with the Telkom Freeme 22GB contract.

If we go out as a family I also enable the Mobile hotspot on my phone.

Megsapp also allows transfer and has non-expiring bundles if that's your thing.

MTN. There's no alternate that I've come across so far. Vodacom's plan that include data share (not transfer) are only the Red Plans, which are highly expensive. Telkom has poor coverage, and most of the deals no longer even support the data share (multi-sim). If 200 Gigs can fulfil your needs, go with MTN @439 pm on a month-to-month contract. You'll be able to share between 5 numbers. If you do find something better, don't forget to ping me.
