Whole thing still not clear and definite as yet..........
Shouldn't be stealing in the first place.
What if the farmer called the police would they have done anything.
It begins with one or two stealing corn then next it's a whole gang, where will it end.

Not justifying the act but it washes both ways.

"This will serve as a deterrent to other farmers not to infringe on the rights of workers and dwellers alike in farming communities. We should, therefore, allow the process to unfold and the case will be closely monitored," said Shongwe.
Is it a right to steal what you want?

I see the skies glowing red over this farm soon.

At this point in time, all seems to be heresy. A case of alleged theft would also need to be established, and they would need that in a form of statement from Grobler, because a case of theft makes it convenient for establishing motive and intent. There is also the possibility that the children were up to no good, and Grobler attempted to spook them but lost control of his vehicle and in doing so drove over them, but that negligence will nail Grobler.

Many more possibilities, but it is not my place to speculate, there are however different versions of the events which transpired. The truth is either somewhere therein or everyone is telling lies.

From the looks of it, just as with all of these particular cases, I think it is going to a higher court.

According to a report by an independent investigator, Grobler's bakkie slipped on loose corn leaves and he was therefore unable to stop in time.

There's already a compiled report from a private investigator?

I get the anger. Work your ass of and people just steal it. And these kids do not get jail time, even if you miraculously get the Police to do something in the first place. So i totally understand the frustration and the anger.
But then you go overboard like this moron and all your justified anger is out the window. The case is now about him, and not the theft. And he should get the book thrown at him, make no mistake. but these kids are now free to go steal again and again.
Grates my balls, we see it often on the farm in Lutzville. Fruit is taken as if it belongs to them.
What happened with just shooting them with rock salt?

So in all honesty, looking at the photo in that article.. I'd be more inclined to believe the farmers version of events than the kids/family.... especially since they're now relying on partial witnesses and 3rd hand stories.

“The farmer suddenly appeared in his bakkie, driving to the field. He was driving very fast — faster than people normally drive with bakkies on the farm,” she said.

The father said he was told this version of events: “He chased the three children with his bakkie. One of the children changed direction and he hit the other two girls with the bakkie. He then jumped out and chased down the third one. When he caught her, he held her up in the air and then threw her to the ground. After that he stomped on her upper body with his foot.”

From slap to stomp.

“Last Friday, the children went to look for corn to feed the chickens."

From the kid's mom....

Lo and behold...the same kids get run over in the farmer's corn field. Where they have no doubt been "looking for corn" for months already to feed chickens and cows and the family.

Come now...this guy was gatvol...saw the kids nicking corn AGAIN and raced over there with his bakkie...the rest is speculation.

The question is now more to prove whether the police's charges are correct. In the case Grobler hailed the emergency and police services, and also intended to take care of any hospitalisation then he has shown not be the murderer they make him out to be. That is up to the Judge, or rather magistrate, but this is likely to go to a higher court in any case.

TimesLIVE conducted a brake test on the scene. Driving at a mere 20km/h it took a 4x4 bakkie about 2m to slide to a halt after an emergency stop.

If a newspaper did a brake test then he could claim it was accident.
Still this is not going to end well for that local businesses and farmers in that community. Political parties are going to claim he didn't get charge or found guilty of murder because of the colour of his skin. This is what South Africa needs, poltical parties causing chaos. We saw what happened in the Free State with Brendin Horner where political parties took advantage of a killing. I wish poltical parties rather deal with corruption and sabotage in government. Once the perp is caught let the courts deal with them.

100% agreed.

I also expect this to go to a higher court as well, regardless of the magistrates decision.
