Very informative - it will be interesting to see what comes out of the October meeting.

Methinx it's all finally coming together. Damn, it's taken a further 3 years since May 2002, I think (expiry of Telkrap's exclusivity provision), to finally get the ball rolling! So... we should see the SNO finally getting off the ground, Telkrap and the mobile providers having to reduce prices, the USALs rolling out their services - all by the end of the year! I just hope that the legalities and ICASA's problems are also sorted out by then...

Great stuff, great writing. Lets wait and see what will be the outcome in October. When I read the France story it makes me jealous again...:(

As I said in Hellkom.co.za, if Ivy were asked if she would consider unbundling the local loop, her response would probably be: "We're not a first world country. Just because the unbundling of the local loop in these first world countries resulted in lower telecoms prices, that doesn't mean the same will happen in SA. I repeat, SA is not a first world country." This is not a quote, but I'm 99,999999% sure her response would be somewhere along those lines.

You have to give it to her, she really does a good job at being incompetent.

* Unbundle the local loop so that all licensed operators can offer fixed-line services directly to consumers without having to purchase access from Telkom. Telkom has argued, though, that maintaining the local loop is expensive. It suggests that if the local loop were unbundled, it might no longer be in its interests to maintain it.

I find that disgraceful.... To think that is the attitude of our Incumbent... If I was President I would withdraw their Telecom License and tell them to try their luck at growing vegetables or maintaining the cleanliness of our streets. I hope they burn under the pressure of Competition and suffer the same fate as WBS.

And they Still haven't sorted my area out, still waiting for my line to be *ADSL Ready*
Retards!

Ditto what alchamy & mbs posted :).

I have gone as far as bookmarking the article for future reference - basically all the essential steps that the government needs to take are outlined in this one article, thanks Duncan McLeod :).
