Hi everyone

My exact location is here: https://www.google.co.za/maps/place...1s0x1e957478eb270fb9:0x2df679c0ba096b87?hl=en

Corner Petunia and Main in a complex called Millwood Lifestyle Estate.

According to Telkom, can only get 4Mbps ADSL here. Want something faster. Have a budget of about R1,500 p/m for this, and don't need more than 100GB per month.

I've searched on so many fiber company sites under coverage, but I never seem to be covered.

Looking for a fixed line solution, but open to other solutions.

Are there no WISP providers such as Bitco with coverage in your area? Else, what are your Attenuation and SNR values? I live at the end of Bryanston Drive, and have 10mbps without any issues

Yea unfortunately you're at the end of the loop, I'm guessing you deal with pretty bad disconnects during thunderstorm season? That SNR margin is literally at the edge of the cliff

EDIT: your Attenuation is fine though, I'd report a fault to try fix that SNR

Contact Seacom directly.
They give us 15meg up/down fibre for R2000 a month.

Any reason you're not considering LTE? You're in the middle of Telkom LTE coverage for that area. With sufficient testing, and if you get good speeds, you can make the service fixed-wireless by using an outdoor antenna.

Current offerings also fit your budget: e.g. 100GB anytime data for R999pm (24 month contract).

+1

If you're not going to be doing anything hectic then LTE isn't a bad option at all

Nice site that @koeksGHT. Speeds seem a bit slow IMHO. Fibre should *start* at 40Mbps to my mind. I don't know if it's just me but the price also seems a bit "premium" (without knowing how the FUP works).

Agreed. SAFibre's pricing seems unfortunately a bit ridiculous for the speeds you get... the REASON we want fibre is to go beyond the 10 Mbps that Telkom ADSL has to offer. Ideally 40Mbps should be entry-level fibre, otherwise at least 20Mbps?

I know what you mean.

We have based pricing straight from the international cables (no middleman Telkom etc) over wireless. (No FUP only 1/10 contention)

Wired is a bit more expensive but we can get you fibre anywhere near the DFA cable in Jozi, Dbn or Cpt for ~R6k pm for 25mbps synchronous(not contended for next 3 or so years).

There is no possible way these companies can sell 100mbps international for 3k pm without a huge contention you will only notice in the next few years when the uptake increases.

Makes sense! Ty for quick feedback on that. the 6k/mo synchronous arrangement looks promising - unfortunately not viable for typical residential use but I'm sure a lot of businesses would take that offer up

Just check DFA map for your location and if you are less than 500m away it is easily possible. Otherwise PM me exact addresses and I will do a check.

If you are in a prescient it drops to about ~3k pm.

Will have coverage map up for that soon too.

Am at La Rocca Office Park. We have a solid 10mbps ADSL line at our office

I'm another ADSL user holding the short end of the stick. Can sync at 4Mbps, but get killed by contention and/or congestion. I am far enough away from the exchange (Wilton Ave, north of Bryanston Drive) that my attenuation is around 50 dB.

This morning I received a cryptic little SMS from Telkom:
"Telkom is bringing the heat. SA's most unlimited network will change the way you connect this summer. Watch this space."

Has anyone else got one of these? And does anyone know what the teaser is leading up to?
According to Telkom's coverage map, my piece of Bryanston isn't planned for any upgrades - no MSAN's, no LTE coverage, no FTTH.

Maybe what they mean is Telkom is going to discontinue fixed-line service in the area? (joke, but you never know)
