The funny thing was, says Knott-Craig, that it took a long time before any union took up the shares. Eventually Marcel Golding and Johnny Copelyn of HCI — the investment arm of the South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers — bought the 5% stake for R50m, selling it many years later for R1,5bn.

That's a 3000% return on investment:eek::eek::eek:

The other unions must be really kicking themselves:D

Blah blah blah blah. A nebulous little puff piece for Alan.

It is thanks to Vodacom CEO Alan Knott-Craig that cellphones are a way of life in this country today

“It was wonderful getting to know the negotiating team...

I love the business talk. Reads more like "It was wonderful getting to know all the liars and back stabbers." to the trained skeptic.

But you to give credit where credit is due: there is no denying the fact that the man is good:D

Just consider the situation had we had someone like Ivy or Papi at the head of Vodacom:eek:

I think Alan has done a great job but surely we should also look at why we have some of the highest cellphone and data rates in the world. He might be a hero is some cases but I think if he really wanted to make cellphones accessible to the masses it should have been a lot cheaper.
