Please remove anything that can get a TV signal. Basically it must just be able to stream movies. We don't want to pay TV licences and support the SABC guy. You can call it a monitor or whatever you want to. Hisense Tunerless TV Monitor (TTM)
That's never going to happen, their TV'S are sold worldwide and if for example look at the UK and their freeview service is transmitted via dtt.

And the external sound bar? Where does that plug into? Sure you can always resort to more external bits and pieces, but the point is if the TV has it in the first place those external bits together with their power supply and and and is not needed. Makes for a clean install.
We were asked what we want on TVs. This what I would like to see on a TV.

I personally can do without all the smart TV stuff. Not interested because there is nothing to connect it to, no reliable high cap internet that is affordable, so it is all just a waste as far as I am concerned.

Sound Bar combined with ARC should give you more than enough HDMI inputs to go around.

My TV has 4 HDMI inputs...I only use one from my Receiver where all the devices are plugged in.

Proper, non-crippled, non-bloated, official Android TV with DSTV Now, Netflix and Showmax support.

You won't be able to build them fast enough.

Sounds good to me.

The option of not having a tv tuner is also nice, but since I have a tv license and quite a few tv's a non essential for now.

When it comes to choice of operating system for a smart tv, LG/Sony/Samsung are basically all ****. I guess having the Vidaa/opera/whatever thing at least gets you a smallish ecosystem but ultimately Android is probably the biggest app ecosystem in the world. The flexibility of choice is there for when you want to go beyond Netflix/youtube/showmax. DSTV now support would be nice but I'm pretty sure they specifically try and block most "TV" players, scared of people using their friends accounts and stuff probably.

As an example I might want to run an app called "iVMS-4500" to check my CCTV, that will never be made for Vidaa etc.
Or maybe open a browser to "HomeAssistant" to turn on some lights. Or just maybe I actually want to send an MQTT message to my tv to wake it up and switch to HDMI1... Now THAT would be smart...

Maybe have a model without a Tuner, so no licence required for those that stream content.

This!

No license required when buying from Takealot :p

Not true at all. When buying a TV off Takealot, you're required to enter your ID number, which is checked against the database of TV licence owners. I know; I've done it.

Actual updates at the same pace as international versions of the same TV.

Can’t have to take French firmware just to get HDR on a TV that supports it because Hisense SA(company) doesn’t wanna give us the updates.

I have never had a TV license in my life, nor will I ever, and 2 months ago they delivered the TV I ordered to my office, just my signature on the slip, that's it.

Okay, I haven't tried myself yet, but read somewhere if you order by app it doesn't require a TV licence. Might do the same soon...

Haha didn't occur to me for one moment that there would be a difference between ordering from the app or the website.

The tuner thing people keep mentioning won't work out in the end...the government would simply make it more costly to sell a tuner-less TV and the company would have to pass on that cost or absorb it. Either option would hurt the consumer in the end (less money for the company to invest in quality products or a higher end user cost).

For example, the government lets companies claim a rebate on the import tariff for monitors they import but not televisions they import. So companies get back the 25% tariff (that was the number a few years back) for a monitor but not for a television. That's a pretty fair whack of cash.

Personally, I don't expect a TV manufacturer to do a good job at the user experience a smart TV requires...the few times I've used smart features on my Samsung TV (or other TV's at friends and family), I found them slow and cumbersome (some of that is the remote's fault, I guess).

I'd rather TV manufacturers stuck to making a quality panel and left the interactivity to others.

Huh? Every (well most) manufacters sells PDP's already.

What do you think they use in Burger King, KFC, McDonalds and just about any display area?

And they are a whole lot cheaper while offering the same panels etc.

You probably won't find much in the way of Smart features though.

This is exactly why people are asking for Android TV so that HiSense doesn't have to get involved in making it work because their current efforts are pretty poor.

They haven't really confirmed they will bring them to SA. In those ranges are units with and without Android.

I suspect that's why this thread exists to see if there would be interest in certain models.
