All names for things are made up! Yes, in this country it has a specific meaning, it is a colloquial term for money that black professionals give, and are expected to give, every month to support their less fortunate family and extended families. Yes, if it was made deductible it would apply for all tax payers not just black tax payers but it would still mostly be black earners who claim the deduction.
So you think nobody else looks after their families?
Who do you think pays for medical bills, old age homes food and services for the less fortunate members of my family? The white people fairies?
don’t black people have black people fairies that pays for them. The Indians must have the magic genie in a lantern. ( sarcasm, watching the genie)

your ignorance is showing.
Just because you feel your reality is ‘worse’ than mine doesn’t make it so.
Time to stop this moaning and do what you have to.
if you don’t want to pay it stop paying it.

Yeah I know the realities... much of it will be cash, and difficult to prove..

It would be interesting how Ferial would see something like this being implemented given the realities of how "black tax" operates... For one I would see it being incredibly onerous and only a few would take advantage of the tax break, and also I would guess the vast majority of people paying "black tax" are very low down on the tax scale, so it won't make a monumental difference to their tax numbers and will just be a huge added burden to SARS in general... may actually cost more than its worth.

In reality, it would simply be a black hole down which SARS could never prove or disprove anything.

Wouldn't you appreciate it if all the money you spent on your extended family was tax deductible?

Absolutely. You want to know why there is no realistic tax regulator that has ever allowed such lawe?

One of the technicians that reported to me told me that once she started working, her mother quit her job and demanded that she buy her a house and pay her a stipend every month as she had raised her and put her through school . Is this normal?

Yes, I know. Does that mean nobody is allowed to express the opinion that it should be deductible?

I would love it if all my expenses were deductible, but sadly we should be realistic.

Taxes will have to raise if we allow this deduction, are you prepared to carry the burden?

So, tax deductions based on the colour of your skin? This country has learned nothing.

I would not call it normal, selfish maybe.
But again it all depends on family dynamics and culture, personally I would not be able to do that and would make sure that I contribute in any way possible.

Had a chat with SWAMBO lite last week and said that she needs to put me one day in nice home(fantastic if she can deduct that).
My Indian friend commented that in their culture it would be unacceptable that you send your parents to old age home.

So who knows we all carry our own cross.

Damn! Hallmarks of a psychopath. Does she even know how much houses go for these days?

Most beneficiaries of tax in SA are blacks who are not working. This is just the next step in SA which will benefit the blacks who are working.

And those who due to moral conscience look after their people. As long as they are black because we know that only black people can do that.

Ferial can do this for black people, at this point it does not matter anymore.

There is no tax growth thus there will constantly be less funds available for grants that end up being send to family members for this tax deductible. Eventually we will have no tax payer left in this country, good luck with those grants and the tax deductible on zero.

I am convinced that every single person in our government who have any real power to make reasonable changes lack any operational grey matter.

Mauritius has a policy like this. Your income tax threshold increases when you have dependents. It is limited though.
They either must be children under 18, or they must be in higher education and/or be disabled. Your spouse also counts as a dependent.

They also have a separate policy where you get an income tax exemption from employing a domestic worker.

And they have negative income tax as well as a flat tax of 15%. Shock and awe when you see they have really high levels of economic growth and prosperity.
