Hi all

Anyone get a descent answer out of the guys working in Hennie Alberts Street, crossing Jackson Street, they putting in some fiber, wonder if this is just more box to box to the Meyersdal exchange or any of it is going up the poles?

Well it confirms I'm capable of 40Mbps VDSL atm, and that 100Mb Fiber is on the way, ye, xMas is also on the way...
At least they stating the area is targeted for Fiber, guess thats a positive point.

There's a small section that's dark purple along Hennie Alberts on the openserve map.

I'm saying in that section (Jackson Street), fibre roll-out has started, got openserve letters in the postbox asking for access this week, also some other streets already have fibre articulated via the normal poles. I have 40Mb/s VDSL running perfectly, however cannot wait for some decent upload speed that fibre brings.

What an awesome surprise, Telkom / white van outside gate, sir can we get access to the Telkom pole in the back, need to put this box up, look at them, ask... any chance that is a fiber connecting box, yes sir, the guy at the top of the street wanted fiber so we already run it up to his house, (aka the entire street at the back of the houses got the fiber cable running, they now putting boxes up at every 2nd house, for people that might want fiber also.

NEXT CALL, CrystelWeb :)

Catherina street,

They put the fiber down/between the houses thats in Catherina and Jackson street, going to the R59 side. That business park on the corner of Catherina Street and Hennie Alberts Street, if you look at their corner closest to Jackson street in Hennie Alberts you will see the loop of Fiber cable.

We got Fiber split out boxes on every 2nd pole behind us, so every 4 corners/4 houses share a pole.

And you?

http://www.dfafrica.co.za/coverage/ shows how they main line goes down Jackson street, they don't show on their map yet the line going between/behind the houses situated on the Catherina street/Jackson street block.

Unless you are planning on getting a Dedicated FTTB connection, the DFA fibre coverage has no relevance for a Home user. If you are willing to look at FTTB, get in contact with SAFibre, or even Seacom directly. Lets just say it isn't as cheap at FTTH (Nor is it even the same product...). IF the chaps that installed the Fibre in your area had Huawei branded vehicles, it is most probably a Telkom roll out.

Vehicles had no branding on, just plain white. (so prob not Openserv), although I'd hope it might be some other company doing work for Telkom/OpenServ.

Seen that the Map is DFA, but not seeing it on Telkom site at the moment and CW does not know anything about it, or for that matter don't even seem to try and find out via their channels who it was.

One of the guy was a Chinese.. so good chance for a Huawei link... x fingers, and Telkom does list the area/address as future FTTH.

For the Most part Fibre needs to pass QA testing before showing as "Live" on any coverage map.

Still waiting for our filter split box, fibre cable has been hanging from pole to pole in Jackson Street, not sure what is happening

... So the little white vans was in the street again, working on the block of houses between Catherina street and Alice Street.
Stopped to ask them who they work for and got an awesomeeeee amazing answer, TELKOM/Openserve. :)

Happiness, now they just got to QA the line and commission it. then the helpdesk person at CW can stop telling me no we can't help you, as he/she is just looking at the online map and not trying to do any further investigation as I actually asked them to do.

It can take a few weeks for the map to be updated after installing the fiber. CW won't be able to do anything until the map updates...

BRACKEN FIBRE UPDATE:
This is an indication of the network that SADV (SA Digital Villages) have acquired from Motheo Construction and will be lighting up in the near Future. We will provide timelines ASAP. But if you fall inside that area, please visit www.signup4fibre.co.za and log your interest in the meantime so that they can contact you. This will be an OPEN ACCESS network, meaning that you will be able to use any of ther 20 ISPs available on their network. NOTE: The map is not final and will likely still be updated further. Please do not ask me if your street is included or not as I don't have that detailed info yet.
