Fibre 1:1 100mb Query

Hi Guys,

My Company is currently using a point to point fibre optic with 8mb up and down 1:1 contention and gold metro.

Recently a company in the Cape at our other branch got a quote from a Telkom representative called All Connect Communications, that offer 100mb up and down, 1:1 Contention ratio at R4799,00 - uncapped true fibre optic.

Now I know for a fact that it could be broadband, which means it still shared and not true 1:1 but I don't have enough knowledge to know if this is legit.

We have 90 users that use a lot of email and internet upload and download and we have over 100 users remote app to our servers. The current line works 100% but my directors are angry cause they now hear 100mb for cheaper and faster.

We paying over R5000,00 for the 8MB ,

Any advice does anyone know if this is true fibre or on DSL backbone with Telkom?

thank you

This is not true 1:1 fibre, maybe a residential account or a 10:1 account. I know the Telkom metro ethernet pricing and the line fee ex bandwidth is more than that.

Thank you paul5186, but how do I prove it to my directors. The guy selling the packages has got all on the quote, and swears by it and is a reseller of Telkom. I wish I could upload his quote to this forum so you could see. it just to good to be true every ISP I call says its not true fibre and its broadband.

Maybe 1:1 in SA only but not international bandwidth?

We pay over R15 000 for a 30Mb 1:1 fibre line, then for another 1Gb business fibre line R12 000 but international bandwidth sucks as it's 10:1 or something like that

Exactly we paying R10375,00 for 8mb point to point fibre optic Gold Metro line 1:1 international and local, that makes sense...these guys says there is also true fibre 1:1 uncapped 100mb up and down for R4799,00... I don't mind that is great but I cant afford to put this package on a huge company like ours without making sure there is no catch.

That company sales rep is talking kuk I reckon.

Ask him exactly which telkom product he is quoting you on an to provide a link to the product on the telkom site.

Hey Ponder

Exactly my words!!! :) I will ask him to do exactly that. thank you guys, I will keep you posted, cause as IT Manager my neck is on the line if this "100mb" is a hoax or flop....

His quote says: Business Premium Fibre Uncapped Deluxe 100Mbps Dedicated 1:1 FTTB (12TB FUP)

at R4799,00 According to him its a true 1:1 contention and pure fibre package

Another option is to contact telkom business directly and ask them for a quote base on specs you provide them.

Don't get to fixated on contention ratios. 10:1 100Mbps should almost always be better then a 8Mbps 1:1 line.

One would think so... 1Gb business fibre... and today international is faster than usual it seems

Local is still ok today

Hi Nookie,

The problem comes with the 1:1 is that we have over 80-90 people in our company and Telkom Reseller quote for (FTTB) is a broadband and not true fibre its going to fold under the load, esp when I add another 100 people on Remoteapp connections to us.

My problem is this Telkom reseller is comparing his FTTB 100mb to our Gold Metro 8mb 1:1 point to point fibre line, which current is running 100% and no issues and with full 24/7 personalised IT support. We have this package already in one of our Cpt branches with 15 people and had 2x issues and there IT Representative ended up calling 10217 for line support...that is not acceptable not for a large company as we are. what you think?

Why not look at DFA with an ISP?

We can do a 100mbps 1:1 dedicated fibre at R9999 a month. Depending on location it could be abit less. PM me your details?
