The techie who pitches tomorrow I assume? Because Telkom phoned from a call centre today.

Will do.
Yup, that's it. You can tell him that my installer went on leave and I'm not sure who else I'm supposed to contact.

Any chance the call centre has a public number?

Strange enough it was from a private number this time.

Will grab my techie's details tomorrow and pass it on.

So, stupid Q.

I have driven around and experienced a fiber install at my one client. The big conduit colours, are they provider specific?

Telkom uses/d the green ones. But I have seen alot of yellow, red and purple conduits also.

Not at all.

No specific pattern that I've been able to discern. In my area, Telkom used the red "Optirod" sub-duct seen in this post.

In other areas, they seem to use the green (usually 4-tube) ducting seen here:

The most tell-tale sign seems to be the "big" fibre cable used for the "backbone" lines inside the street-level ducting. If Huawei do the install on behalf of Telkom, they seem to use orange stuff as seen in the pic above.
The stuff DFA uses seems to be green (see here) :

And if Telkom do the install themselves, they seem to use the black M-TEC cable seen here :

Just an update from my side.

Oreo (yes that is the techie's name) called around 14h30 to say that he just finished with a troublesome installation but if I can be home in 30min he can try and squeeze mine in for today.

Bit difficult for me to leave the office on such short notice so I asked him what the alternative was. And to be fair, the last thing I want is a rushed installation that might give problems later.

He said that he will come tomorrow morning at 9h00 and do my installation. Surprised as I seriously thought they don't do it on weekends.

No objections from my side though. Thanked him and confirmed address and details again. Unfortunately I have to be at the office tomorrow to finish month end procedures but at least wife will be there to keep an eye and keep me updated. Also means he can take his time and do a proper job.

Ebendl. Will grab his personal details tomorrow. Pretty sure he tapped into a local box/line to phone me today. Was from a Faerie Glen telephone number.

So I see that my area in Eldoraigne is marked for future fibre coverage. Any idea how long it takes for them to actually get things in operation. Optimistically i'm thinking within a year things should be good to go?

Are you near the Spar? If so, Feb 2017.

Garsfontein was supposed to be ready Dec 2015, they only lit up in August 2016. So I'd say 6 months to a year is realistic.

There's a guy from Openserve at my house right now, he says they're very busy all over the place. So it might be sooner or later...

So Oreo the technician is a poephol.

Telkom phoned me again this morning and wanted to confirm that everything is in order after my installation. "WHAT INSTALLATION??" I thought to myself.

Spoke to the lady and told her about Friday and Saturday. She says the system clearly shows the technician signed off on the installation and says it was done on Friday. Bastard!

Anyway. She has booked me for tomorrow again for a full day installation. Meaning the assigned technician will only have my installation for the day.

Holding thumbs it actually happens this time.

For a free-standing house, I'd say 3 - 6 months from the time the area goes dark purple ("fibre available) until the moment you get the first magic speedtest result on your very own installation. If the fibre is only showing as "planned", I'd bargain on 6 months to a year.
For fibre inside a gated community, it could go either faster or slower than that. Faster if the body corporate is jacked up and starts the process early. Bigger estates might arguably have a better chance since they offer more potential clients.

Thanks. This will come in handy. Going to talk to one of the trustees today.
