Amen to that! :crylaugh:

Yep. In my case (40Mbps line), a similar pattern :
WebAfrica, 200GB anytime data, 1TB night-time data : R938pm
Afrihost, 200GB anytime data, no midnight data (?) : R1077pm (+R139)

Maybe they have actual customer support ;-)
I see that they emphasize the 'Unshaped' aspect of their capped packages quite hard.
Another interesting thing is that their 'fibre line speed selector' tool is pretty optimistic (I think). For example, for a 'whole family' streaming 4K video, they recommend 25Mbps minimum.
Not convinced, especially for an offshore source with no local caching !

Anyone on the thread currently using Afrihost-over-Openserve fibre ? How's your general experience ? And how do your offshore speeds compare to local ones ?

It will be the same as DSL. If you look at the current feedback thread I'd avoid both Afrihost and WebAfrica.

Openserve completed the FTTH installation at our house but the fibre is not "on". The technician said I must keep an eye on the ONT LED and give him a call on his cell when the PON LED comes on, he will them come and activate the ONT. At the moment only the power LED shines green and the LOS LED flashes red. He said the problem is probably at the exchange.

Who can I contact to follow up on this to get more information about where the problem lies? I can't find a telephone number for Openserve, and they don't reply to mails.

Can anyone comment on their experience with Afrihost or Axxess on OpenServe in Joburg?

I'm deciding between these two as they seem to be the cheapest open (at least for a 40mbps line).

Much to the comments floating around I have had nothing but a great experience with Afrihost in the past few years. I have a Premium 40mb line running on my OpenServe Telkom Fibre line.

They would be my first choice, as I've also had a good experience with them in the past. You think it's definitely worth going with the Premium package? Just wondering how noticeable the difference would be. Would be using it for Netflix, Xbox, Usenet.

All depends on consumption, Afrihost have been pretty awesome with on the fly account upgrading so take a home package and see if you fall within that package size FUP since home packages have limits, if you do simply then upgrade. You are charged pro-rata for the account and can then continue like normal.

I personally average around 900-1.3TB's a month on my 40mbps line so the premium is well suited for me.

Sounds good that you can change easily. I doubt I'll be using that much, probably 300-400GB per month. Any idea on the FUP and limits, like actual amounts?

You should be more than fine, the FUP on 40mbps is 250GB. However it says shaping will only take place if the network requires it.

"Home Uncapped Packages are subject to throttling only when a user has reached their monthly threshold. Throttling is only applied during peak demand periods, when required, to manage overall network demand. Users who have exceeded their threshold will experience unthrottled speeds during off-peak hours. Premium Uncapped Packages are not subject to throttling or monthly thresholds, and will enjoy full speed real-time services under all normal circumstances, but may be subject to shaping of downloads only if the network is under strain. Priority Uncapped Packages are not generally shaped, but can be subject to shaping, should the network experience high levels of demand. Priority Uncapped accounts also have a user controllable feature via ClientZone to prioritise non-P2P traffic on their account to ensure mission-critical services always get the highest priority."

Policy

If you look at the current standings, the top 40mbps home user is already on 1.03TB usage

Hey guys, I see that with Axxess they have a 40mb fibre connection with 200GB of data for R859 p.m.
I would just like to know from anyone who uses their services what the service's like?
I mainly game and stream shows and I can only choose from OpenServe packages.

Some feedback on my OpenServe Fibre Installation.

I placed an order online around 18 Feb, which never got anywhere. I received a few calls where my details were verified, but the order was never actually placed.
On the 3rd of April I got a general call from Telkom asking whether I'd like to upgrade my DSL to fibre, I duly noted to them that I already ordered Fibre in Feb, but they had no record of this o_O so I went through the whole order process again.

Long story short, the fibre installation was completed today and went down without a hitch. So, from successfully taking the order to competing the installation took less than 3 weeks. Not bad at all.

The installation itself took less than 3 hours.

Mr. Jax, in which area are you? I can't wait for fibre but its been over six months that my area has been in the light pink. Does anybody have an idea when fibre will be active in the Amberfield, Centurion area? According to several of the Estate Managers around the area fibre should have been active by end March 2017...

Going for month 11 of our neighborhood roll out. Saw some Chinese guys clad in Huawei reflectives on Saturday afternoon. Seems the trenching has been done between Erasmia and Laudium.

I hope the trenching is done in Laudium to the exchange.
Now comes the wait for them to install the equipment, actual fibre and then enter our homes.

Monumentpark West.

From light ping to dark pink took around 14 months in my area. From dark pink and subsequent ordering to install took about a month.

My internet speed on TelkomInternet via Openserve in the Hyde Park area has gone to **** in the last week or so:

This is 40Mbps FTTH. It looks like the downstream is stuffed. Some days I'm closer to 40 than others, but been below 5 most days. I'm thinking there may be GPON congestion. Anyone else experiencing?
