CBI used to be ATC Brits. Telkom used and still does get most of its cable from there and Aberdare in PE ?

Yes still are in Brits i believe and a copper cable plant in the Vaal area, seems to be a joint venture now.

CBI Electric Aberdare ATC Telecoms Cables and Aberdare/CBI Joint Venture, produces an entire spectrum of copper and optical fibre telecommunications cables

Code:
Aberdare Cables, a member of the Powertech Group, is a leading African cable manufacturer and has been in existence since 1946. Going for month 11 of our neighborhood roll out. Saw some Chinese guys clad in Huawei reflectives on Saturday afternoon. Seems the trenching has been done between Erasmia and Laudium.

I hope the trenching is done in Laudium to the exchange.
Now comes the wait for them to install the equipment, actual fibre and then enter our homes.

So fibre my part of centurion was laid about two months ago. How long does it take openserve to activate the fibre for use? We cant have ADSL(what telkom said) and LTE has been slow the last few days.

I see them almost daily still busy in parts of Eldoraign and Wierdapark too. I suspect that there may be a waiting list.

I haven't seen them in a while in the area, but I usually travel through there outside of office hours.

Same here, I drop the kids at 6 am at their various places and pick them up around 6 pm again. I saw a lot of orange barricades on Theo St and to the back of the highschools.

Did anyone else in the gated community get a letter of new prices? Im very very happy with Telkoms new 100mbps/50mbps prices, 43% drop in price.
Can you post a pic of it? Hoping those of us on openserve with other ISPs get similar decreases soon

Wow. So 20mbps uncapped on openserve under 1k will be possible. Still not as cheap as other offerings but its a great start.

Looks like they're still using pretty much the same stuff ... see here and here for details on the innards and origins !
The "M-TEC" plant is in Vereeniging, just a stone's throw away from the original African Cables plant that's now also part of CBI. The vertical extrusion tower built by African Cables and used in the manufacture of high-voltage polyethylene cables is quite a landmark round those parts, visible as you drive into Vereeniging on the R59.

Great! Least the Gated Communities price drop we got will be trickled down. It's a do or die for Telkom to do this so I'm glad they jumping in and dropping prices

New wholesale Openserve pricing (this is what ISPs are charged to host your line)

4Mbs ->R270
10Mbs -> R330
20Mbs -> R390
40Mbs -> R440
100Mbs -> R490

I really hope Axxess drops the line only prices.
They are currently charging 799 for 100mb line.

Why would they? They have already dropped the 'line only' products in their entirety.

That's decent already, we are paying R950 from Telkom for a 100mbps line only. Shifting now from next month to the all in one bundled package for R1650.

Called and asked them they have a 6Tb FUP on the line before it gets bumped down to 50% speed from 6pm to 9pm.

Wonder if ISPAfrika is going to drop their line only prices?
Let me shoot them an email and wait for a reply.

Does anyone know when the fibre for The Hills Eco Golf Estate will go live? Openserve was there handing out pamphlets for Telkom fibre, but we have heard nothing more.
