I spoke to a tech from Huawei on Friday. He was busy splicing fibre in our complex in Clubview. I asked him if he has an ETA for go-live. He mentioned that the area circled below is his responsibility and will be spliced and ready by the en d of August. Then there is another 2 weeks of assigning circuit numbers and finalisation. I believe Eldoraigne will have a similar time frame:

Since I am inside that area any comments on how the installation at your complex worked? Currently we have earth works outside the wall indicating some sort of termination box but I would like to know how the process works from there? Do they randomly arrive and lay the fiber inside the complex, do they wait for application to continue or does the body corporate need take steps.

The topic's been discussed a few times in the thread. Your BC/HOA definitely needs to take positive action to get things moving.
See here,
here, here and here for some ideas on what it involves and how to get going.

At our complex they liaised with the chairman of the HOA. They replaced all of the concrete manholes with plastic ones and used the existing Telkom copper trunking infrastructure to run the new fibre trunking. In some of the complexes, like the one in Jim Fouche road, they used the existing overhead Telkom infrastructure to route the fibre.

So numbers have been painted on the sidewalk in front of the manholes sometime last week, and at the weekend the huawei techs went past each one doing something. Hoping for some good news soon!

To rain on your parade, our numbers and man holes were numbered November last year... We are still waiting for them to finish 13 months after they started digging.

Same here. They trenched from June to November last year, installed the terminating box on the pole in our yard in December, tested same box in January.

Its now mid-August and we are STILL light-purple on their coverage map.

Ok so our complex had to be dug up for new fibre trenches. They put a "spine" trench down with lines emerging from the spine to each unit. Funny thing with that is that they just stopped at the front of my gate. Fibre line terminated into a smaller manhole. Nothing coming into the property. Does this mean that I now need to call Telkom up so that they can run the last bit into my house or should the contractor have done this already?

For interest sake the contractor that's been in the complex for the past few weeks is Fibretronic.

Your ISP or fibre provider will have to to the "last mile" into your house.

The last inch is only done when you sign up for a service and that can't happen until all other aspects of the service is ready.

The fibres themselves are essentially the same outer diameter as the ones used in the outdoor O-12 and O-48 cables : around 0.21mm.

Just to help you right... And inside THAT, there is the actual glass tube that carries the light. Yes, there is another layer that needs to be stripped down :D

Also don't look into that cable when its lit you might have a bad day and pick up the shards safely with tape or something after its been spliced!

Techie told me a that I could already order and that they would be able to pull it to the house that week and that they were already able to do it for the month before that.

Tomorrow it will have been 50 days since that day.

There will not be any shards to pick up, the cutter/splicer has a little container that collects it.
Be very careful playing around with these glass shards. it is a health risk. If it ends up in your bloodstream it can go anywhere and cause havoc.

Anyone else experiencing slow speeds in the Willow Acres/Equestria/Silver Lakes area? My line has been maxing out at 1Mbps for the past few hours. The horror!

Going for month 11 of our neighborhood roll out. Saw some Chinese guys clad in Huawei reflectives on Saturday afternoon. Seems the trenching has been done between Erasmia and Laudium.

I hope the trenching is done in Laudium to the exchange.
Now comes the wait for them to install the equipment, actual fibre and then enter our homes.

After 18 months, we still have 0% fibre into the actual houses, infrastructure was signed off only late last year according to the Huawei tech I spoke to. Can anybody advise how to make fire under Telkom to complete our setup? @medicnick83 suggested I hit up @telkomZA here.
Our ADSL service in the area has gone up in smoke and I think no one at Telkom gives a snuff about ADSL anymore.

EDIT: Just placed an order via Telkom's website for a 10Mb Uncapped fibre, did not kick out when I entered the address. But according to the Openserve map (and Mweb, Afrihost and CrystalWeb), we still have no fibre coverage. Will wait for them to finish vetting me.

I was also able to place an order with Axxess now, even though it is still light purple. Let's see...

EDIT: They have this message on their site:
No Fibre Lines will be installed between:
10 December 2017 - 15 January 2018

Please note that this affects all of our Fibre Partners during the Holiday Season. Fibre orders placed during this period will only be processed from 16 January 2018.
