Fibre : Setting up Huawei Echolife GH8240H

Hi Guys,
I recently ordered Fibre from Openserv via Afrihost.

After a 10 day waiting Period, the Installation is completed and Openserv left me a Huawei Echolife GH8240H GPON Terminal connected to the OTN connected.

I currently have a PON Light which stays green and a LOS Light that stays off.

I have connected my PC to LAN Port 1 and Setup a Static IP address of 192.168.100.2 with subnet 255.255.255.0 , as it does not give me an Address.

Pinging the device on 192.168.100.1 does return packets, but trying to access it via the web interface http://192.168.100.1 does not work.

I have also tried Telnet and SSH, I also tried to reset it to factory settings, by holding the reset switch for 10 seconds which flashes all the lights, and reboots the device.

Bottom line: I cannot seem to access the GPON Terminal to enter my ISP Credentials...

Can anyone recommend anything else ?

My set-up is very similar to yours (Openserve installed and activated it this past Friday, and the ISP is Telkom), with one exception: I also received a second router (Zyxel SBG3300 N Series), which I can log into and enter the ISP username/password.

The person who did the installation told me the Echolife was 'locked', and not even he can access it (perhaps it's locked by the ISP?).

Anyway, I plugged a network cable into the Echolife GH8240H's LAN1 port (ports 2-4 seem to be disabled for some reason?), and the other end I plugged into the Zyxel's EWAN port. Took me a while to figure out where to enter the ISP credentials for a EWAN connection, but eventually got it sorted.

[-]I should also mention that both my PON and LOS indicator lights are a solid green.[/-] I'm an idiot - the PON light is solid green, and LOS light is off.

Thanks, I just got it to work using my existing VDSL router as a broadband router, routing traffic on LAN 4 as a WAN Port, I entered my credentials, and boom, it is working...

Except I am just getting 10 mb/s down and 10 mb/s up, i am paying for 40mb/s down and 20mb/s up are there any special settings to set ? will chat to ISP in the morning, sigh... Afrihost replied now saying it will take up to 21 days to activate... i mean WTF?!?

Ooof, I can imagine that gut punch feeling when you were expecting much higher speeds.

Do you get consistent 10/10 speeds, or does it fluctuate wildly when doing speedtests? Might be that they have your line on the wrong 'profile' (if that's even a thing with fibre connections). I don't see anything on this router that would allow me to mess around with the up/down sync speeds.

Has anyone else used the Huawei Echolife GH8240H for anything other than just a terminal? Seems a waste of network ports / wifi!

Does it have wifi? I can't seem to see it on any of my wireless devices at all. And can't log into it either

Yes I saw wifi on mine. I searched for login details online. It did work at times, other times I could not.
