Fibre-to-the-home is killing ADSL

Fiber is supposed to replace ADSL... it's a natural evolution of technology.

That is.... IF it's available in your area...
Openserve are busy in our area right now.

I understand that we will be one of the first areas where they implement their new "Technology Refresh" strategy.

In the past they would roll out FTTH in an area but leave the copper in place. Only customers ordering FTTH would be moved onto fibre while the rest remained on copper.

New strategy is to move everyone in the area onto the fibre and recover the copper network. Savings achieved due to virtually zero maintenance on new network. If you don't want a FTTH product, eg you want to stay on a 4Mbps connection, they simply move you onto a fibre connection limited to 4Mbps. Even those houses with no DSL will get FTTH with terminating equipment and a handset.

Bring it on!! Kill DSL !!!!

If only we could say the same! Much to my amazement, I received a email today asking me if I would be interested in a VDSL connection??

I responded by saying why? You are already rolling out FTTH? Why now push VDSL on copper at the same time? Sometimes I wonder what is going on in the various regions of OpenServe??

Fibre isn't killing ADSL any more than 10Mb lines are killing 2Mb lines. Fibre is an upgrade. Its just a pity that it looks like it will be another few years before my area gets that long awaited upgrade.

Eish, tell that oke to come and put up the ladder in your yard! Where is the Safety Osifer???
hehehe, knew you'd pick that up. :D

I told him he could move the ladder into my yard and have a safer climb, but he saw my dogs and refused. He did have on a harness and clamped himself to the pole...

Software wise I hope? Would be fun if they had switches that were physically limited to 4Mbps. :D

But if that ladder slips he is going to split his difference seeing he is now tied to the pole! :D

Once had to visit a oke in hospital who had to have major surgery to put back the family jewels where they belonged !

About 3-4 yrs ago our whole are got dug up where they put in all the different coloured conduits and fiber and to this day still nothing except for a very small business area.

When you put all that cable in the ground surely you would want to recoup on the cost as soon as possible...

I must have done something bad in a past life, no VDSL, no Fibre, not even 10 Mbps DSL :/

Yet the entire side of the mountain, down the Southern Suburbs has fibre coverage

and now a place called Mountain View in Hanover park, what the frisco?

/ rant over
