Why is fibre still so expensive?
I am currently on cell c lte with 50GB for R349pm. 100GB is available at R530pm. I get a good 10 to 30mbps (not everyone's experience I know) with about 40ms ping when gaming.
In comparison, Axxess capped fibre (on openserve) is R545 for 50GB / 10mbps, R665 for 50GB / 20mbps, R619 for 100GB / 10mbps and R739 for 100GB / 20mbps.
This makes fibre almost 1.5 to 2x more expensive than LTE with similar speed. Yes fibre gives much better latency and axxess throws in free uncapped night data.
Our neighbourhood got fibre last year (OpenServe) but I'm not sure its worth the extra RR. Its interesting that (four!) mobile networks have a large spread in broadband lte pricing (with cellc being one of the most cost effective solutions) but fibre providers aren't nearly as competitive. Collusion / Price fixing much?
