The Executive Committee also listened with satisfaction to a report on the status of preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa and underlined its support for the Local Organising Committee. However, the Executive Committee stated that it was now expecting work to begin, particularly on constructing and renovating the stadiums.

The dates for the final competition of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ were set for 11 June to 11 July 2010. The allocation of places will be the same as for 2006, i.e. Europe: 13; Africa: 5; Asia and Oceania: 5 (4.5 + 0.5; play-off); South America and CONCACAF: 8 (4.5 + 3.5; play-off); hosts (South Africa): 1.

This was after the 2 day FIFA executive committee meeting held in Zurich

You would get a lot more responses if you had marked out the bad parts of the report...

the Executive Committee stated that it was now expecting work to begin,

See if you made that the heading everyone would be in here in a flash

prolly the worst thing about the whole WC is the next 3 years of drama and intrigue we will go through...a lot of folks seem happy to take the bad news at face value as opposed to seeing that, at least some of the time, media releases will be used by FIFA to control the process

wake me up when the soccer starts

Really - imo that's going to be much more exciting than the actual WC - silly game that soccer is. :)

Wake me up when the soccer ends. :p

I don't wanna think about 2010... thinking of the embarrassment SA will face with half-built stadiums and all... I just wanna see construction begin already then I'll feel less concerned.

FFS most of the world still thinks we live on farms with no electricity, I'm hoping 2010 will change the view of SA... guess not

Most popular sport I won't deny, but greatest sport no, not in a million years.

Soccer is played by gentlemen and watched by hooligans. Rugby is played by hooligans and watched by gentlemen.

More and more South Africans watching rugby everyday, and more and more africans starting to play rugby as well. And with rugby we have won matches before.

Rugby may not be the worlds most popular sport, but I do challenge anybody to find a moment in the history of the New South Africa when this nation was more unified than when we won the World Cup.

Please, get a clue and a grip with reality. It'll be a miracle if the Bafana Bafana make it past the first round... We have less than no hope of even challenging for that trophy.

I highly doubt anyone actually thinks we can win the WC in 2010. This just makes me more sure that Sipho is not who he says he is...

I can't wait for the WC and Football is the best sport in the world but man we don't have a chance. We might make it past the group stages though. I hope we do at least....

I'm looking forward to watching some awesome games in 2010.....

I remember

No, I get sick to from the performace at the African Nations Cup this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Parreira... he has interesting but demanding term ahead! Will his term take him into 2010?
I love to see him play one match with Kaiser Chiefs... love him or hate him!Time will tell.

I remember when Clive Barker was good enough...
then not good enough...

aah well... wonder if it will ever settle.
