Fighting Piracy in South Africa with the law

Argh, more BSA crap. Although I wouldn't mind that chic in the article being my pirate :)
 
they should focus on fighting pirates in somalia.
it's a bigger threat to our wellbeing.

Mostly because you're entirely disassociated from the world you're trying to change. Fancy that. The BSA and companies like it are worse than the bloody pirates.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't piracy of foreign software also help the South African economy?

Just imagine all the millions that wouldn’t go out of the country to Microsoft et al, and that could be spent elsewhere within our country.

I know that the South African importers, distributors and middle-men wouldn’t get their cut, but percentage that goes to them is a lot smaller than goes out of the country.

So where will this R9 billion come from? It cannot magically apear. It must come from somewhere. So are they saying they will put R9 billion more into the economy than they are taking out if piracy drop by 10%?

That sounds like logic to me.... we have no place in SA for logic!!!! :D
 
to work out the numbers they take the amount of pirated items and calculate the revenue they would have received had the items been purchased. yet no-one would actually go and buy those exorbitantly priced items in the first place. the only reason they are consumed is due to piracy. so that number of "jobs created" is grossly over-exaggerated.

this whole "stop piracy" business it once again humans trying to fix the problem instead of dealing with the cause.

How do they know how many items have been pirated and are in use?
