After configuring the workgroup name successfully on both PCs, i can view, browse and copy files from XP's shared c: drive within the Vista machine. But from XP PC, i can go as far as viewing the shared name (c on vista). When i double click to open, won't allow me, no error message or warning, just doesn't open or go through. Is this a security on vista PC?

Yip, to make things easier for you bro.

Click start>network>network and sharing center (at the top)

Turn on the options like this:

Network discovery: on
File sharing: on
Public folder sharing: on
Printer sharing: on (if you are going to use it)
Password protected sharing: off (this is where the mess comes in)
Media sharing: off (windows media player doggy poo)

Check workgroup again, check shared folders.

Network>pc> voila! ;) :D :p

Here's more... I have Vista on dual boot, Vista on e:, XP on c:... So, the standalone XP machine still does not manage to browse the (C: on XP) located on vista/xp machine. It now does access shared folders from the vista e: drive. This happens when i'm on Vista boot. Haven't tested on Xp boot... did u get me:confused:

Got you ;)

But this means you have to make sure that file sharing and workgroup settings are correct in the XP installation.

Check the network services in Xp by clicking start>run> type in>services.msc>press enter and look for the network services.

Open any folder and click tools>folder options>choose the second option (view) and make sure simple file sharing is enabled.

;)
