Well just wnhen I thought I was hooked up and tried downloading files on a file sharing program /server i run into this whole port forwarding thing to optimise the performance, now i need to configure my router, bal bla bla
It aint easy setting this thing up
can anybody help
Thanks

HHMM how about sharing your hardware: knowing what router u have will go a long way

easy.

Get into your router
Go to Advanced Setup
Go to NAT
type in the ports which need to be forwarded to your PC (it was suggested to pick ports greater than 6000 due to shaping)
type in the PC IP address
Save config changes

The line should look something like below

Start Port End Port IP Address
---------- --------- ----------
6789 6789 192.168.1.100

You'll also need to open those ports on your software firewall software on your PC

Should i disenable the windows firewall,, could there be conflict between the router and the software?

Thanks

Cant seem to go to NAT anywhere is this "static route " in advanced setup?

If you are using another firewall software, then switch of the windows firewall. She is quite useless...

No, "Static route" is something else.

there should be a "NAT" option inthe menu, then from their you set it to "many to one"

If you're not running any other firewall software on your pc, don't disable it...might not be very good, but it's definately better than nothing

on thsi topic I have the netgear DG834G
tried a p2p download and found some really slow speeds if any at all :/

would I have to enable port forwarding as well to accept the incoming connection of the p2p program ? or outbound ?

Thanks
