Filling a plastic hole in my bumper

Hi guys,

So the big day came, and i finally got rid of the monstrisity on the back of my car.....
(My exhuast---good riddance to bad rubbish)

Now im sitting with a hole the size of a coke bottle in my plastic rear bumper,

Bumper is white and covered with rubbish carbon fibre sticker, gonna rip that off definetly, but now what about the hole?

What should i ask at a panel beater for? Or is there something i can stick over to make a diffrence....

Can't you find a bumper at a scrap yard and have it painted?

Well the one after that one, round lighs 2010 picanto so parts a bit scarce,

Bumper from scrapyard, 1800 paining another 600 so very expensive propersition

Looking do it for cheap as the hole aint that big, about the size of a 2l coke bottle.

Wont body filler work, or some kind of sticker i can use to cover the hole with?

Also its plastic, so cant i just cut something similar in shape and glue that on?

You could definitely cut something the same shape and fill it in - I was going to suggest that in the first place.

A plastic patch panel, welded in place, and paint, is the only viable non ghetto solution

No, you are going to have to find bumper plastic of the same thickness, then "weld" it in as _kabal_ says - there are products that you can buy off the shelf that can do the welding and can also be shaped afterwards - then you paint it - all in all, there are plenty of bumper repair specialists around, rather take it to one of them unless you want your car to look like a back yard special.

I seem to recall someone in Alberton, but I left there years ago, you will have to Google a bumper repair crowd.

You can use fibreglass but any bump to that area will crack it. Also fixing on the cheap to sell and make it someone elses problem is not great.

They should be fine - if you don't want to get ripped off, just keep all of your ducks in a row when you go there - just tell them that you were going to do it yourself, but wanted a professional job - at least they then see that you are not a total blonde and were prepared to get your hands dirty - they tend to see you in a different light at that stage.

Well tried that and said to the guys how i wanted to do it....

Guess what, they wanted to rip me a new place where the sun dont shine......

Insane prices, was at like 5 diffrent ones in alberton.....

Starting from 1.5k, all say they cant fix it quickly, they MUST MUST remove the bumper completly before trying anything.....

Say as a "favour" well remove it and you can keep driving, otherwise they need the car for a week!!!!

Seriously guys, the bumper just got 1 and only 1 hole in it, paintings not even that bad,

Id thought it not he more than 800 max,

Welcome to the rip off nation, where well "try" make as much money off your a$$ and thats how we survive....


Is this how these shops survive? They see a young guy with a car and think christmas coming?

I agree that they can take the bumper off and keep it - unfortunately, hourly rates are horrific and they are possibly running at 550 per hour at the moment, so yes, add that together and a quick job becomes bloody expensive.

I would see what they would charge if you supply bumper only and re-fit yourself.

Told me not possible, said very complicated removing all the little cables and screws inside

Even asked for a replacement new bumper R1200 without painting, another 800-1500 with,

Its like, how much can we rip you off and still do the job "acceptably"

Very dissapointed at what i found, now i know why people dont fix small things, and drive around with dents and holes in their cars.....

Wait for a big accident, then claim the whole panel needs repairs......

Also found, if you know somebody there, he'll give you a decent price, but as i work in IT no such luck for me

Is it hard to do? In my case there was a minor knock a while back that they fixed by screwing it in a bit more tightly....

Not sure if it will go back the same way, as it was plastic.....

So fazda, if i rock up with the bumper already off, should it be less? What would you consider a resonable price, out of insurance no reciepts......

If you supply the bumper, let's say it will take some guy 2 hours to fix it, you are looking at at least 1000, plus materials if they are charging 500/hour - hopefully it's less than that, and you'll get away with about 1000
