Just received a "Notice: Final Warning - Notification of Pending Legal Action" letter from Vodacom today, after hearing nothing for 3 months from them.

And I shall quote :

"As we have had no reply to our previous correspondence, your cellular srvice has been permanently disconnected and the service agreement deemed cancelled.

In terms of our agreement you will be held liable for the outstanding balance of Rxxx.xx. In addition, you will also be held liable for the balance of the contract.

You are requested to contact <number> to make suitable arrangements to settle the outstanding debt.

Failing to do so will result in the following legal action being taken :
1. The blacklisting of the cell phone on all networks
2. Personal details will be handed over to the Credit Bureau as a slow payer
3. Handing over of account to the Legal Department."

I'm banging my head against a brick wall at the moment. Will contact them tomorrow and see what can be worked out, but in my current financial state I am unable to pay them. :(

Eish... :(

Regards

Libs

you can make an arrangement with them, eg: you can only afford R150.00 a month, they cannot hand you over to legal as long as you stick to the arrangement made.

Do you get a company cell phn allowance? if so, If you have not claimed anything from your company, now is the time.

Yea they blacklisted my old phone once :/

My dad gave my brother and myself a phone/contract (his name) and he passed away 8 months later. They asked me to take my phone into the nearest Vodacom outlet as it was there. I'd spent R1,000.00 on the phone upgrading and told them 'no'. Next day it was pretty useless :/

My brothers - on the other hand - still worked for a year and he ended up selling it

Was that for the phone that was lost/stolen?

For my cellphone that was lost (contract was cancelled, but had an amount outstanding) as well as my wife's cellphone (1 year still to go before we can cancel the contract).

Will speak to them on the morrow, and tell them I can only afford R50.00 per month for now, and that they can forget it if they want more as I'm unable to afford that.

Not so bad, could have been Rxxxx.xx.:D

I hope you can sort out your finances. Start with the most important things. Rent, food, kids ... then worry about Vodacon.

Agree with Skoob.

If you show willingness to repay, it can go someway towards repairing the damage done to your credit record. I know it's nasty but these guys don't give a stuff if they ruin your life. If you're at the final demand stage, it's already affected your ITC/Experian record. Your credit record already shows you as a slow/non-payer so that's an idle threat from them.

If they won't accept your offer apply for debt counseling

Sorry man, been there, done that and it took years to rebuild a decent credit record

How many friends do you have here on MYADSL?? I mean. Aren't all of us able to help a fellow MYADLS member in times of need??

How much do you owe them? I'm sure all of us will be able to help if we just give a small amount.

AFAIK there is a policy against donations on the forum, but nothing prevents anyone from sending a pm to Librarian and offering something?

The worst thing about what's happening, is that they will cancel your contract, make you pay outstanding amount and the remainder of the contract, but you will not be able to use the rest of the contract. I think it's just like stealing, how can they make one pay for something they are taking away?

A friend of mine went through the same thing except he was declared insolvent before Vodacom sent him the notice. Trying to do whatever he could to keep his number, he paid the small outstanding amount, and asked to be reconnected again. They just said no, and that he had to pay up the outstanding contract period.

They did the same a few years back with me when the contract wasnt paid for a good few months. They demanded their money once the contract ended ( tho the line was suspended for roughly year ). I told them no problem if you give me all my free minutes to me... have not heard from them since.
