Ever since Google's SA local search went tits up I've been on the hunt for a replacement, been using Bing local or just adding the .co.za to the search string on Google, neither of which seem to give very comprehensive local search returns. Then I somehow came across this search engine, works really well so far(relatively well lets say as the other options are positively dismal) :
http://www.izito.co.za/

Its when looking for SA specific info or online shops that truly local search is so important, nothing like wasting hrs on Google looking for the local needle in a global haystack.

Anyone have other ways/tips for searching local?

Hmmm... Not bad though I don't like the sandwiched results with loads of ads up top and bottom. I'll try with Adblock on my pc later. It looks fast tho.

Works perfectly.

They don't work properly anymore. Overridden by Googles algorithms

:erm: These are Google algorithms and work perfectly.

New operators are usually added, but these fundamentals stay the same.

It's only the " that doesn't work properly - Google often thinks you're doff and gives results similar rather than exact. They'd rather give you something than nothing. I'd for one rather get nothing when there is nothing.

1) google.co.za
2) Type search into search bar
3) On result page click -> "Search Tools"
4) On drop down bar change "Any Country" to "South Africa"
5) ?
6) Profit

From my experience that only works from Chrome...

Using those various Google search operators to get local results is patchy at best, all I know is the engine I mentioned in the op gets a few pages of very decent truly local search returns(there are a few intl returns interspersed but normally just a handful at most), I add it to Firefox search engines with a keyword Z and then it's just Z + the search to get decent local results.

Are there no other local za search aggregators?

Ananzi was mentioned but that seems to just be classifieds search these days, it's very handy though, searches all the classifieds Gumtree/olx/junkmail etc, from one place. I rediscovered it recently found some cool stuff, I'll normally only have a hunt on Gumtree from time to time for stuff I'm after because it's to much mission going to each classifieds but now the Internet is doing its job automating the legwork, thanks Ananzi.

This is pretty neat. I didn't now that I had to change the country to SA to get more SA related content. Thanx
