I just realized something for the past few days my Cell C speeds have gone up significantly,I used to average around 0.8 - 1,8 mbps for the past few months normally I would expect 1,2 mbps but never faster than 2 mbps.

Last night I decided to do a speed test, I was shocked because this is the result I got:

speed test 5mbps.jpg

I tried it again several times and it was consistent even tried it this morning before I left for work it was the same.

I then decided to test at work where I used to get 6 mbps but it went down to an average of two recently but heres what I'm now getting at work this morning:

speed test 10mbps.jpg

This is actually very good news and I'm wondering if they have managed to upgrade my towers specifically or is this maybe related to the implementation of that 2 gb BIS cap so those BIS serial downloaders are no longer hogging the network?

If many people are experiencing this substantial speed increase these last few days then it means the BIS capping was the best thing Cell C could have done to get their network "upgraded" for us normal users. If its not so widespread then maybe just my towers got upgraded is my best guess.

Let me know how you guys have found the speeds on Cell C in the last day or so.

It is probably because hardly anyone can actually get any kind of data connection going. So if you can you have it all to yourself.

Enjoy it while you have a connection.

I've had connection for the last year already so yes I am enjoying not being ripped of by the other networks like MTN/Vodacom.

I wanna know why the speeds have increased so dramatically the last few days.

In Durban, It kind of depends on the time of day,
Morning's and late afternoons, I can get +- 13Mbps,
During the day sometime's EDGE is the only thing I can use, on a good day on HSPDA I can get +- 5/6Mpbs
I must admit tho, on a good day the speeds have stabilized.

I cannot wait for commercial LTE...

Whereabouts are you based? My speeds are in general pretty good, although I found Wednesday night was a bit frustrating with quite a few dropped connections while I was trying to work.

East rand usually :D But I often take speed tests when I'm floating around Gauteng and somewhere between 1 and 3 Mbps is the norm. Occasionally the upload speed is greater than the download.

Sorry dude, all depends on your area really,

I didn't take screenshots of higher,
This was done on saix.net cellc HSDPA BlackBerry

I'm starting to think there might be something wrong with my phone or sim card. These are from today:

http://www.speedtest.net/android/557207613.png (1.81Mbps Down / 0.12Mbps Up / 498 ms ping)
http://www.speedtest.net/android/557140657.png (2.39Mbps Down / 0.36Mbps Up / 171 ms ping)

Try the speed test on http://saix.net

That speedtest.net I dont really like to use on mobile.

How would I do that on my phone? Says I need Flash installed which isn't supported on my device.
I just ran a test on speedof.me:
960 Kb/s Down
310 Kb/s up

EDIT: Just did a test now as well on speedof.me using my 8ta 3G and I get:
3.9 Mb/s Down
1.88 Mb/s Up

:(

Hmmm... interesting. My partner recently got the Q5 and she's on Cell C as well. I'll try it out on her phone later. Have to admit - I quite like the Q5.

That's still quite an improvement on my result though.

Q5 is pretty neat :D

Do the test on her phone, with her sim, then test with you sim.
Remember to go to network settings and put network mode on 3G

I'll give that a try ...if I can pry the Q5 away from her for more than 5 minutes :D She loves it.

Sweet, don't forget to post your feedback.

Um... Had the same "Flash is required but not supported" story on the Q5

I couldn't find a speedtest.net app in the Blackberry app store (?) either so just did a couple of tests on speedof.me all about a minute apart:

BB Q5:

Code:
	Down Up
1 20 Kb/s	750 Kb/s
2 60 Kb/s	780 Kb/s
3	1.79 Mb/s	630 Kb/s

GS4:

Code:
	Down Up
1	520 Kb/s	230 Kb/s
2	140 Kb/s 90 Kb/s

:erm:

My Cell C reception at home is rather iffy and data can go from mediocre to bleh between rooms but we're on wifi at home so we don't really notice the bad data throughput. I'll do the sim swop on the devices and test again once I've convinced her she won't lose her settings & contacts etc. :whistling:
