There are apps to do this. Where's My Droid comes to mind. But there are other apps out there that might be better. See if there is an app here for you.
You can also use Lookout. The developer also has an application called Plan B which you can install remotely after the phone was lost/stolen if you didnt already have anti-theft software installed.
I cannot testify to the reliability of Plan B but it will be sweet if it worked as advertised.
