Anyone know places that sell offcuts of quality woods to the public? I'm looking for things like mahogony, maple, rosewood...not 100% sure what I want yet so would be nice to go look at different pieces. I'm only after a piece roughly 120*80*70mm so don't want to spend R700 on a full-length piece.

So far I've tried Rare Woods in Epping, but their power seems to be out for the week which makes choosing wood kinda difficult - so was hoping to try some other places in the meantime. Any ideas?

Rarewoods is the only one I know that sells offcuts of exotics but even these are expensive. An offcut of a very rare shade of Pink ivory for example cost almost as much as a cheap chinese scooter as does a small plank of African mahogany which would reach your waist. Post an ad on Gumtree as maybe some carpenters doing inlay work may have offcuts.
