Just a quick tip for those who don't know.

If you're having issues with firefox hogging your system resources (can you say 100% CPU utilization?) do yourself a favour - get Adblock and its Filterset Updater now. There seems to be a problem with firefox and some flash ads, this lovely extension removes those pesky ads from all the sites you're browsing. Really a must have.

You can easily unblock ads for certain websites, if you wish - like myadsl.co.za etc.

Y'all should scratch around on the forums for prior mention of Ff extensions: IIRC there have been at least 2 separate ones going into some detail about how to trick it out with all sort of funky add-ons. And yes, these 2 are on EVERY.single.Ff.installation I put down ..it's always a hoot watching people's faces when they see the difference between Ff and IE on an ad heavy *cough*M&G*cough* site.

Well admittently I tend to have a few tabs open - but it was definately the flash ads causing the problem (did a bit of troubleshooting). If you google it you'll see quite a few people with the same problem.

If you just have firefox and a few apps open then you'll probably not even notice it. But I have MediaPortal (which is already not too light on resources) running on one monitor and firefox etc on my other monitor. Firefox caused MediaPortal to come to a standstill everytime (in taskmanager you'd see firefox sitting at a nice 100% cpu usage) - QUITE annoying.

In anycase - adblock did the trick..die flash ads die..I was even considering using IE7..luckily that's not needed anymore :)

And bloated phatware like Seamonkey and Netscape Communicator before it was the reason IE won the browser wars.
