Right. Now how will the DTI price it in such a way that it is still more feasible to use Eskom...

How big is this battery?
What can you do with it?
How much does it cost to generate power from this?

What's the capacity though? How will it be recharged?

Running cost is more than eskom, and they will not be able to compete with the $55/kW base cost that the car manufacturers claim theirs will cost...

The capacity is how much natural gas you have in tanks.

Keep supplying natural gas and you'll keep getting electricity.

Please, if it *ran* on platinum it would be the most expensive energy cell in the world. All the platinum does is catalyse the reaction.

Do you have the kwh costs? Would be interesting to compare. In any event these things are often more expensive until they hit mass production

This is an enormously exciting project in so many ways - in terms of environmental impact, local beneficiation, better power supplies etc. The key is to understand the finances - both the hardware and the fuel elements. Also - it's great to have Ballard working on these high-tech solutions which boost SA exports, I'm just worried that they are equally researching alternatives to platinum, to leave us out in the cold.
