First Tesla Model X ships to South Africa next week

Sustainable technology group Rubicon is bringing a Tesla Model X Performance Edition all-electric SUV into South Africa next week.

"This is a big step forward for raising the profile of renewable energy in South Africa," the director of Rubicon Energy & E-Mobility, Greg Blandford, told MyBroadband.

Renewable energy in a country that is going the way of not having any energy ?

Also no mention of the expected market price but I am pretty sure if you take the USD price x 3 would be close to the scam price we will be seeing in the SA market.

Sounds like they are getting old Tesla Model X that is not selling for cheap and bringing them into SA. The Model X is from 2015, ancient.

This is like releasing a Geforce 980 GTX from 2015 in 2020 and then apparently getting applause for it.

Don't forget rubicon are big suppliers of alternative energy. They'll sell you a tesla car, tesla batteries and solar panels to charge it up...

The arrival of our Model X gives South Africans the opportunity to see up close what an electric future looks like

That a Country can make a song and dance about ONE tesla arriving on its shores shows how truly backwards and behind the curve we really are. God help us!
Lol really now? BMW i3 has been here for ages now. People just love to go crazy over Tesla for some reason. The Chinese will beat them at their own game.

They are in the business of renewable energy so this will be perfect for their customer base who already doesn’t rely on Eskom.

Also nothing ancient about a 2015 car that was already ahead of its time. Especially not one that gets constant updates, but the S and X have just been refreshed for 2021 so these will be brand new.

Aren’t all i3’s fitted with the range extender motor here? So technically plug-in hybrids.

But also for stupid non-sensical money nobody should be paying for them, largely due to government and silly import taxes.

If you’ve ever been in one you’ll understand how silly that sounds. The model x is ahead of its time even now.
And, as mentioned in the article, Tesla produces updated versions of its vehicles just like any car maker.

The 2020 Tesla Model X Performance has several upgrades over the original 2015 model. Just at a basic level it has a few more horses under the bonnet (or strapped to the wheels?), and longer range (490-odd km compared to 400-odd km)
