First time Ubuntu user, or should I say tried to be

I spent hours over the weekend to install 10.10 on hardware that runs Win 7, XT & Vista flawlessly.

All I get is a black screen from the Live CD & Wubi install

Help on the Net all have different causes and remedies - the majority suggest to add lines of code during the grub phase ?????

If Linux think they are going to get newbies to switch, they are believing their own hype.

I have spent too much time on this and might try again in 2015

What kind of hardware are you trying to run it on?

It always worked for me, laptop, server hardware, workstation... no problem so far.

I had issues with X on 10.10 with my work PC but 11.04 works without issue and did not do a single hack to get it to work on 2 laptops and 2 desktops.

You get a blank screen on the live cd? As in you boot into a live version of the ubuntu cd? Maybe if you have onboard graphics available, switch to that then. Otherwise I have never encountered problems like this on multiple different platforms.
Have you tried the alternate installer version?

My experience is that LTS (esp 10.04.2) is *far* more stable (and usable) than the current batch of 6-monthly releases.

(BTW I forgot to put this :p in my earlier post, so here it is: :p)

I only hope we dinna confuse the OP :D

I doubt the OP has any intention to read this let alone give Linux another try.

+1 :D

As he's not going to read it, let's go OT - how are you enjoying the i5? I'm busy trying to put a new box together at the mo but am still deciding on the bits and pieces (and supplier).

SO far I'm very happy with it, haven't overclocked it yet, but will do so in the near future.

They say that the 2500k is actually the overclocker, but I have read reviews that state them getting the 2500 close to 4GHz on stock air, can't remember the max overclock though.

Now to upgrade the graphics. Once the minister of finances speaks to me again (aka WIFE, SWAMBO (she who always much be obeyed)) I'll slide in the idea of better graphics.

:D I'm almost at the point of slipping the costs into a conversation - she's almost sympathetic, especially when she saw it taking 3½ hrs to rip a dvd to fix a duffed aspect ratio

Might be stable but lacks the driver support of 11.04

Im using 10.10 and i have to agree with everyone here, its rubbish. whenever i try to dev there is some specific issue related to 10.10 stopping me from doing what i want to do and i always have to find a workaround, how did they mess it up so much. isnt the x.10 versions supposed to be more stable than the x.04??
