So made the move from Telkom's pathetic network to Vodacom and wife just got the 24 month data contract for 10G+10G from a Shop in Sinoville Pretoria. When she got home she informed me they told her that this account cannot have data block on so when your data runs out the out of bundle rate would kick in and that would be R1 per MB I mean thats beyond crazy 1GB = R1000

Now can someone that's been on these contracts longer than me plz inform me if this is in fact true because if this is the case that vodacom cannot block your contract when your data from contract is depleted, then I have to cancel this contract and simply move on, can't have a device in my house of which my kids have access too and then one morning wake up to a 10K vodacom account because the kids downloaded some steam game without me knowing.

I honestly do not see how anyone can use a data contract where it simply starts using out of bundles rate's unless you retarded, simply stupid or completely unaware of how much data are consumes by ppl. If the contract's data runs out I would simply buy another 10G for R550 atm with no block there's no way I will use this contract, tested vodacoms 3G speeds in my area and that reach 18MB download, I'm also in an LTE area which means I probably be looking at an even higher download rate which in short means I could be downloading 10GB if I wanted too in a very short period of time

Any feedback would be welcomed, I have not yet had the pleasure of using this new contract sending wife back in the morning to cancel contract, but thought I just ask if that's really the case.

The one good thing about Telkom is that it can stop you going Out Of Bundle like you wish Vodacom could.

Could get one of the Telkom SmartInternet 10GB or 20GB Telkom contracts and force it to roam on MTN (which it can)

Yes. No hard limit. You can have a call limit which is a rand amount at which to lock the line at but because you might be in the middle of a internet session, your sim would continue to download until you start a new session. Ending up with a nice 2-10k Bill :)

I actually have a 30GB + 30Gb and a 10Gb +10GB with Telkom. but I've finally had it with telkom there network in my area have been degrading to such a bad state in the past 3 years that I'm browsing at dial up speeds. Roaming on mtn using the router fails don't have permission only using my cellphone on tethering i can roam on mtn sometimes, but yeah each time my phone rings I get disconnected, I use my bandwith to play online games, but who in the world wants to play games with a 700 ping not me if Telkom maybe wakes up and starts expanding their LTE network I'm like 2km from the border the problem might be solved but yeah, 4 Telkom technicians later nothing has really happend so no point in paying cheap for something you can't really use.

The out of bundle rates of vodacom and no block is pretty dam retarded, guess I will just cancel the contract in the morning and move over to pre paid pay a little more but zero commitments. Hopefully vodacom wakes up within the next 10 years.

Most routers have the ability to set a data limit in its firmware I believe. We can also setup email or SMS notifications to your nominated cell number or email for notifications as you use up your bundle.

If that fails to satisfy, it can be converted to a top up contract where you cannot go out of bundle, but the extra 10gig night owl will be lost.

You can't just cancel, they will charge you a massive cancellation fee.

The way to do it with Vodacom is to have a Top-Up contract, that stops when the data is finished.

But Top-Up contracts don't have night data.

Nah you have 7 days to cancel any contract we just got this 3 hours ago and when I found out there's no data block I was amazed that Vodacom could actually be so stupid, plus haven't even opened up the package, jump on the forum to confirm what was said to my wife, now my wife did not call me when she took out the dam stupid contract beets the hell out of me cause I would have stopped it there and then.

Thanks for reply Ockie, but yeah if vodacom does not see just how stupid this actually is then yeah guess there's no real way of solving this.

Sending sms to a number doesn't help when your laying in bed sleeping while the kids roaming the crap out of the internet, 1 steam game can be anything from 10G to 40G and kids even tho you tell them not to, they will always try, so I don't mind if they try and my internet goes down i can simply buy more data next day after giving them the great speech, but waking up to a 40GB download at R1 a MB I mean the risk is simply not worth having this contract.

Will Have a look into the firmware update, cellphone's have that limit built.

I just phoned Vodacom and a R50 hard limit was set to the account, problem I'm facing is how does that affect data usage if your in a current session and that session goes over by just 1Gig you end up paying a fortune.

I'm going to be honest it looks to me like the whole vodacom system is built on the ability to catch their customers off guard so that they can end up paying Vodacom a crap ton of money.

A better solution might have been BC Lite, but you need LTE coverage for that.

Dam I'm looking at those package now, there's LTE coverage in our area so you just showed me what I'm actually looking for, and it's a lot cheaper, perfect replacement for Telkom so thanks a lot for the help I would have never found those contracts because that dam vodacom website is so unuser friendly it takes me forever just to get a simple price and I don't even see a link to the BC lite options had to google it.

Anyways thanks again I will be cancelling my new contract and get myself that 40GB BC Lite contract in the morning

Need your advice again I did that coverage test and it says I have no Broadband Connect Wireless coverage i do have Broadband Connect Satellite coverage and Broadband Connect LTE coverage, does that mean that i can't use the BC lite package

BC Lite is LTE. Wireless is Microwave. Would you like me to assist you in getting this? It does not matter if you are not in Joburg. I can still help you with it.

Not sure that Vodacom follows the rules. Let us know what happens.

Lol then vodacom have clearly not met me yet, you're actually protected by the consumer protection act and every institution that provides contracts of any form to any client has a 7 day cool down period, this includes taking out a loan at the bank if you cancel within 7 days there's no penalties. So if they do charge me a quick phone call the the consumer protection offices will in most cases sort things out might just be time consuming everything government related is always time consuming.

Ockie again thanks for the info and the help you offering me, will let you know if I need further assistance, wife will go into the Vodacom shop in the morning and sort it out and get the BC Lite contract instead of what she got today.

Just tested to make sure there's a 4G signal and was able to connect to Vodacom 4G network, did a speed test, latency was better than on 3G but download speed was a lot slower than on 3g weird as hell, anyway that BC lite contract is just about what I need so thanks again for the help
