Rietvlei at Irene (50KM) off R21 just as you enter PTA is doing Ok. See the latest "Oewer hengelaar"="Bank Angler" mag at CNA.

Get/see the same mag. They highlight the best fishing venues around and give excellent information on baits and methods at each dam. Even depth, distance

Ja but you can't eat those fish unless you like the taste of mud

Dullstroom is great for fly-fishing and you can spend the weekend at a B&B at a reasonable rate.

I've been there many times and only see one person actually catch a fish there.

Now, they do have a well stocked dam in the nature reserve but alas, no fishing allowed there.

Parys is 100k's from joburg. Definitely worth a day trip to fish on the Vaal river
If you like dam fishing, try Koppies. Probably about an hour and a half south from jozie

You could also try Bass lake (the old Douglas mine quarry) Henley-on-Klip (sp?).
Great Bass fishing but until april only monday to friday. Was doing a scuba search and retrieval course there last year and met some guys fishing. Catch and Release only but they looked like they were very busy

I went to that small dorp in 2006. There was only one traffic light. Very nice small town that was and the nature around it was great.

/Makes me wanna go back home in Limpopo.

I've been to Parys. But that was very very long ago.

Don't know if the holiday resort is still there, the one next to the river.
But we caught big fish there. Just with a hand line and a stick.

There is also a place close to Parys, called Leeufontein IIRC. I think it is a farm on the border of Transvaal and Free State.
Best fishing experience of my life. We pulled out over 60 "Geelvis" and "Karp" that day. And they weren't small. Big things.

If you just want to mess around and have a few beers ... I take my son to footloose trout farm in on the R511 towards sandton.

Guaranteed to catch fish. Lekker place for a days outing and to braai.

Prob your best bet for a day out with the kids and be sure of catching something

The place is just before Deipsloot if you come from Sandton's side on your right. Opposite a small mall there.
