Fitbit launches Fitbit Charge 2 and Fitbit Flex 2 – pricing, details

Huh? Am I missing something here? I am sure I seen this around for a few months now. :erm:

I love it, but I want to but the new samsung gear

Bought a Fitbit HR1 for around R3000 brand new for my wife.
Junk.
It's a single sealed unit and if ANYTHING physical happens to it, you throw the whole thing away. Can't be repaired.

Works for 4 months pretty well, then dies for no reason. Won't sync. Battery wont last 1 day on any mode. I suspect it's battery issues but even plugged in it won't sync with the app on the phone. Never again. Just a useless expensive bracelet.

Also, the strap gets brittle and starts little tears, I think if the unit had lasted longer the strap would have been next to break.

Don't believe me? Look at the reviews on Amazon.

Get a Garmin forerunner.

What fitbit does well is the social aspect and analytics. That's all. It's not well made and you can't practically monitor heart rate while training.

A one post wonder. I haven't bought one yet, but have been researching these things. Fitbit are quite good - and they replace quite freely. This dude is a Garmin spammer.

EDIT: there is no such thing as a Fitbit HR1 :whistling:

What most fitbits do are for the beginner/intermediate folks. The intense fitness folks will splurge R12k or so on the top Garmin.

I think he was referring to the first generation Charge HR - the one with the heart rate monitor.
Fitbit are poorly made. Mine lasted OK for the few months I had it before I sold it, but I have seen them fall apart badly. I can post a pic here of one tomorrow that a colleague has. It's literally just pulled apart (glue, etc.). Battery life on the Fitbit is very poor. The floor counter will never work - it's a barometer and changes with the air pressure. Some days it'll work, others it'll tems of floors climbed when you haven't left your desk. That's not a big deal if you don't use it but they can't market it as a feature IMO. The battery life sucks. It does the sleep thing fairly well though.

Agree. Although I don't consider myself an intense fitness guy, but I do want to monitor my heart rate while training and target certain training zones from time to time. Fitbit won't do that. Fitbit is good with the retrospective analysis, not with the 'while you're training' features.
My Tom Tom multi sport cardio is way more solid, more features on the unit (including GPS - I don't have to run with my phone)...

All for R2800 on special at Cape Union Mart. Excellent value compared with Fitbit IMO.

The Fitbit forums are full of people complaining about the issues that haven't been fixed for years. That said, it has a niche and certainly isn't a bad option for the less serious / fussy. Price wise though, they're over the top. No need to spend 'R12k' on a decent one. You can even have your MP3's loaded on some Tom Tom models and listen while you run.

I'll chat with you tomorrow. I am just researching. But I think you are comparing experiences of heavy duty runners with equipment not suited to that. And what Fitbit costs R16k?

It was a typo - meant to be R12k. You were suggesting Fitbit was good for casual fitness folk when I was saying you can get better quality (see my example) in other brands - e.g. TomTom for similar prices to FitBit, but with better features (depending on what you want it for).
