This afternoon, five children were killed and four others injured when a truck crashed through a school fence and stopped in the parking area.

ER24 and several other services responded to the scene along the N12, approximately 10km outside of Potchefstroom.

On arrival, medics found the truck parked near several small container buildings.

Upon closer inspection, medics found three children lying under the truck while several others were around the vehicle. All the children were believed to be aged between 7 and 11.

Medics quickly assessed the patients and found four children had shown no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them, and they were later declared dead.

Three other children were in critical condition, while two others had severe injuries. Medics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support. Unfortunately, after a short time, one critically injured child succumbed to their injuries.

Once treated, medics transported the three other children to a nearby hospital for urgent care.

The driver of the truck escaped injury.

The exact details surrounding this incident are unknown, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

Heard about this on the radio...Its terrible..

Will be one of the following reasons or all of them:
Unlicenced driver
Speeding
Overloaded
Non roadworthy truck
Non truckworthy roads...

Taxi drivers drive like they on a race circuit. They love driving 140km/h bumper to bumper.

Ever had a conversation with a taxi driver? 9 out of 10 times you will come to realisation they not that bright. So you ask yourself have they ever been inducted on safety of transporting people. Do they understand the impact of of their actions?

Is a simple PDP sufficient? doubt it.

10km outside of Potchefstroom. Rural School?

That's horrible.

“The mini truck is reported to have been traveling from Potchefstroom towards Johannesburg on the N12. It capsized after a front tyre burst and the driver lost control of the vehicle,” said department spokesperson Elias Malindi.

The school is right next to the N12. Not much fencing to be honest. No barriers either. School looks temporary.

So sad. Must have been so traumatic for the other little ones who were also awaiting their transport:

RIP and Condolences to the families, hope they find the strength to get through this.

Looks like a tragic accident from first impression but even then, tyres don't just burst, owners are know for not doing proper maintenance on their vehicles.

Same applies with road maintenance.

RIP to the little ones and condolences to their families.

Explains why there was so much police presence there yesterday in the afternoon when I drove past.
