Asafa Powell, Nesta Carter, Sherone Simpson + 2 ...

Five Jamaicans have been tested positive for banned substances, with a month to go before the start of the World Championships.

The five – two field event athlete and three runners – returned the adverse findings following the tests conducted at the National Trials that were held from June 20-23 at the National Stadium.

The two sprinters are Olympic gold medallists.

A representative of one of the sprinters declined to comment.

The other sprinter was down to compete in Europe on the weekend but did not face the starter.

Our sources say the sprinters might have ingested the banned substance from a new dietary supplement recently introduced to their training camp.

It is understood that one of the athletes had done extensive research on the supplement before taking it, and is now considering legal action against the supplier.

Dr Herb Elliott, chairman of the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission, said he has not yet received any information on any adverse finding.

This development follows news out of the United States today that American Tyson Gay failed a drug test at an out-of-competition event in May.

Only last month world track and field was rocked by news that Olympic gold medallist Veronica Campbell Brown had also tested positive for a banned masking agent.

I have my doubts that the Jamaican explanation of hard work coupled with good genetics resulting from their slave based ancestry can explain how they have recently been able to dominate international sprinting. Widespread drug use seems to be a far more likely reason. Even the head of the IOC seems to have his doubts about Bolt's incredible performances on the track.

If the substance cannabis that would mean that they are actually slower than they would be normally.

You telling me you could beat these guys if took and they never did? yes they used drugs but they are build to sprint. The drugs enhance it but don't magically change you from a shortish/tall white person into the fastest sprinter on the planet.

Legalize doping, some people think doping means these guys don't put in work daily and sit eating popcorn watching movies.

Let the best doper win!
