O everyone is always complaining that they get slower speed than what they should. Well this is my parents exchange!

There should be a separate number to call if you actually know how the entire ADSL etc network works.

Errrrr, none of those suggestions are going to get them to change the damn line to another connection or some such. Every year when the rain comes my internet goes to the dogs and stays like that deep into the summer when everything has dried out. Then they come and test stuff and say but nothing is wrong.

Not when the actual problem exists...

That's a pretty useless document. Don't think it will resolve anything

My favourite part:
Type ‘ping ping.telkomsa.net’.
The average response time should not be above 200ms.

Okay. Mine is 1000ms every evening and all weekend, but only 14ms at 9am. And I gave a detailed report in October 2013. And I have a open fault and reference number. Now what?

Since they are so keen for us to fix our own problems, I'm inclined upgrade my local DSLAM, exchange and backhaul networks myself. Anyone know how to get the equipment orders approved by the finance department?

Thread necro incoming.

My data throughput just dies for a few minutes randomly (Telkom ISP) per day. ADSL and ISP connection lights are green on the router. Direct link to pc via ethernet cable. Telkom capped data account tha'ts unshaped.

Any ideas?

Next time the line is struggling:
1. Look at the noise statistics for the router. If the SNR drops, or if there are many frame drops, then it is likely to be a line noise problem.
2. Ping an international site such as news.bbc.co.uk. If the routing fails, or if pings are slow (or erratic), then it is either a DNS failure, or international slowdown.
This should help isolate the problem, though not necessarily fix it...

Great ideas. I'll check for SNR and ping the next time it happens. I recently changed DNS from the default ISP settings to Google, problem still persisted. I then changed from Google to Cloudflare but it's still problematic.

I'm beginning to think it may be noise or ISP related.
