You need a specialized solution. Like IS static BDSL, which is a fixed IP adsl, that's shaped too so thats not an option for VC at all.

Basically, you are going to need a big amount of reliable bandwidth to stream the voice and video at an acceptable rate for VC performance.

Vox offers a fishbone line bonder for that which works pretty good with our Eyeris VC equipment, or you can get big diginet lines which will cost you a fortune.

It's up to you to decide.

I use a 4mb uncapped business adsl account from IS and it works pretty damn well for VC.

Yes you will need to get 2 static Ip's from your isp, failing that you might be able to use free dyndns services.

Depends on how clear you want it to be. I can't imagine having a VC over 4mb, let alone the shaped uncapped connection. If you want to make use of DynDNS you need to find out if those VC units support DynDNS.

True that, the picture is'nt great, but its smooth with no hiccups, does the job quite well.

Yup, and also depends on if it's Hi-Def or not :D

In SA, if one wants to set up a full blown proper VC system it's going to cost you about R60 000 or so (conservative estimate there). Personally I could'nt justify such a system and just built my own for slightly less that R20 000. :) It keeps my bosses happy and saves them making monthly trips to Austria.

Is that bought or leased? The ones we install are obviously more for corporates though.. But if you payed R 20 000 once off and it works for you, then you must be one relieved man :p

I'm not sure about the sony, I don't think you need to enter the address into the VC system, it should automagically pick up your dyndns address from your network connection settings. I 'think' you can add the dyndns to your router and then just do the port forward to your internal 192... address if you're on a firewall.

Like Happy said, the dyndns will be configured on the routers and you should be able to portforward using the dyndnsname. Are you using one of the free dyndns services?

Another small tip: Turn QOS on in your firewall with the VC as top priority, VC sucks bandwidth and you will need it all while conferencing.

If you want the other side to dial you then they need to dial the dyndns address on the machine you are at. Yes you are correct.

Having fun so far? Let me know when you're done and you can test with me if need be.

edit: YOUR internal IP at your PC will be 192.wo.te.ver, your router stores the dyndns account settings. Any traffic coming from the wan to that dyndns address will find your router, your firewall will then port forward all dyndns traffic to your internal 192 addy.
