Oh the other argument I heard, is that if you work from home they'd have to adjust your salary as a part of that is given for fuel and maintenance on the cars, sigh.
Another retarded argument from the dinosaurs I would guess.

I mean what I spend my salary on is not their concern. If I choose to walk to the office and save, let me. The cost saving in terms of real estate for bums in seats at the office would far outweigh any perceived costs anyway.

Such horseshite!

It is all about productivity. We all know employers don't employ anyone out of the goodness of their bleeding hearts but if it's more productive to have a balanced system in place for your employees, then why not go for it??

As for adjusting salaries, GFY! Would they adjust my salary higher if I chose to charter a helicopter to avoid my 1.5hour traffic trip just to spend more time in the office?

This was my argument, I mean companies are cost cutting, switching the coffee to ricoffy and and. Yet they want everyone here 8 to 5. Instead of allowing those that don't need to be here to work from home. This would be a major cost cutting in the sundries. Oh another benefit I've got 2ply at home :)

They would adjust it down, because clearly you earn to much if you can afford a helicopter.... flashy shows of wealth are not acceptable for peons.

Old school of thinking, the same with the company constantly checking your hours you've scanned in and out which affects your bonus, cause if you're not in the office for 9 hours you're not worthy of the bonus.

Nice thing about working from home is that you can start basically as soon as you wake up.

Then I can argue they need to pay a portion of my homeloan, electricity and water

Not a bad argument, though apparently you can claim some of that back from SARS if you work from home. But only if you have a portion of your house dedicated for being an office.

Actually depends on the individuals work culture. I've seen work from home employees don't deliver what's required, then complain they don't get overtime remuneration for the work that should have been done during their normal hours. Other times when a BA or QC person needs to speak to a dev, they can't be found (phone off/ignore emails) because they are busy attending to some other things. Lastly seen people get fired because dev's are busy working on their side jobs during their flexi hours, so management gets pissed that they busy paying someone for doing personal random work. This also impacts on the non-delivery/overtime needed. It's easy to say "just hire the right person", but in practice its much harder.

I work once a week from home, with flexi-hours the rest of the days (due to meetings, whiteboard sessions etc.).

It's not full remote work, but better than nothing I suppose...

I have been part of a couple of companies during my tenure in the fin industry and I can tell you that there are definitely people that take the p!ss. My argument is always that management should do their jobs and manage individuals accordingly.

Agreed, I mean how many developers actually need to be in the office?
I swear these scrum masters and PM's have nothing else to do except to have daily scrums and WIP meetings every week and what not. Fortunately, daily scrum attendance is accepted over video meeting channels these days.

When I work from home (infrequently) I do more than the 8 hours that I would do in the office. At the the office is strictly 9 to 5. At home it is more of 9 1/2 hours, start earlier , finish later but have larger 'me time' gaps during the day. The laptop is out I might as well have a quick look and answer that email now kind of thing.
